it would be really great to have an option to change the blue/red default colors to the colors of my choice. i’m really saturated seeing these colors… and of course some color suits a different race better than another.
i guess there is no option in the current wc3 to change this?

Yeah, I was actually just thinking this myself. I have been watching the Starcraft WCS and realized how boring it is to always watch red versus blue. Why not let players choose their own favored color? Just make it red and blue then if the players have chosen the same color.

Pretty sure most pros prefer red/blue. I play many unranked melee games and I hate when players pick brown, dark green, black, purple or white. White should not be a choice because thats always your color on the mini map, everything else sucks cuz its too dark on the mini map. I’ve seen people walk right by others cuz of that (and I have replays for proof)
I also hate watching as observer with a green vs green, or blue vs blue matchup because I cant tell who is who. It sucks that you cannot force red/blue when you are observing.
I would like it if I could set each players color myself somehow, like in 4v4 i want blue, light blue, teal as my allies, and enemies as red, dark red, oj, pink
What I really want though, is to be able to set unit colors to red/blue and leave the minimap on default, currently you can set minimap to red/blue and leave units on default, but I dont like that.

I suggested many times earlier, in-game currently we have an option to set blue and red manualy so why can’t we set an option in the settings to change colors as we want, so in-game your oppo or observer will still see blue and red and player will see the color he want! I personaly hate seeing bright red NEs and blue HUMs etc…
Exactly that is implemented in sc2 and it is a really cool feature. You can select which color is your enemy, your units and allied units. The enemy does not see your color, it is just for you. There is also an option to have the units healtbars the same color as its team color. So in mirrors it is way easier to tell wich unit is yours or from the enemy. It also helps in other matchups aswell.
I would love to have those two features for wc3 =)

Similar to an out of game CustomKeys.txt file, the game already accepts a set of 24 custom color file pairs that overwrite the colors. So if you hate white just replace it with a different color.
But it’s not officially supported so I can’t guarantee it will work on future patches. All you have to do is make a folder named War3Mod.mpq inside your installation then add BLP game texture files to it overriding the specific colors. Don’t override any game data other than colors, because it would cause a desync.

You have a point. However, I think that could be easily fixed by player-specific color display, similar to how they work when you change it from the button next to your minimap. That way, if you don’t want to see dark brown enemies, you can just turn on “force red/blue” mode or something.
is there a tutorial on that? That seems cool, but I am no real modder, so theres that =)
No, i mean changing the color, I am familiar with hotkeys and stuff.
that is what this thread is requesting, it doesnt exist currently

I am talking about this, if it works, it might be a hack, but maybe that really works. My question was directed towards him.
thank you Retera, but that is way too much work for something so minuscule, and as you said it might not work if they update or patch the game.
I also dont want to permanently change each individual color, i want the ability to swap colors on-the-fly and in-game.
The devs just need to add more options for team color, especially for when observing/spectating games
perfect, thanks a lot! I will try that, the dull red/blue is just annoying after a while
But seeing that it is actually just renaming a file, it should be pretty easy for the devs to just load the selected color for you to see.
Well thing is they made this war3mod.mpq thing for supporting modders and Kam himself taught it to me when I asked ‘How can we make Rebirth work in current patches’, it is not a hack you can change model files, textures etc, it is not causing desyncs it is just ‘local game data’ that shows for example green instead of red or Milita instead of Footman that we use to change models with HD ones, even Reforged might use this way like an ‘official’ war3mod.mpq to play Reforged and an option to go back to War3Patch.mpq that means Classic WC 3
