Game wont launch when clicking play button. It changes to Launching for 2 seconds then switches back to Play. Windows 10, reinstalled multiple times, reinstalled blizz app, turned off all start up programs, ran as admin, ran in compatibility mode, uninstalled and deleted all WC3 registry items before reinstalling, no firewall on, tried creating a new windows admin user, didnt help, updated graphics driver, updated windows, please halp.
Windows event viewer is producing the following error when the game fails to launch
BTW I just want to play Frozen Throne classic online. I bought reforged to get access to classic, if there is a workaround where I can skip trying to launch Reforged, please let me know, I just want to play frozen throne online.
you can’t skip launching the game… otherwise you can’t play the game. Reforged is the latest version of the game- it is not a separate game.
If you only want to play the campaign you can find disk images for the original releases, but you can’t go online because it will patch to the latest version (reforged). There is no workaround.
Please post your dxdiag (use pastebin and link to it with code tags like this:)

and list your system specs- CPU GPU RAM everything. If you’re on w10 and your system can run 11 I strongly advise upgrading.

There is the paste bin. Would Windows 11 have better combability with WC3? I usually hesitate to upgrade windows ever since Windows 8 was so much worse than 7, I usually feel like upgrading breaks things/makes things harder to use. Based on your recommendation I guess maybe thats the first thing I should try. I’d rather try upgrading to W11 rather than reinstalling windows
It’s hard to say. I personally didn’t have issues with either. but Win10 is getting closer to end of support and it really isn’t good to linger on an older OS past that point. Much like Vista, w11 had a rough start but it is now in a commendably state. Obviously some things change in every OS version so it’s worth checking. Technically, you’re out of date here and when troubleshooting anything, the first thing I reccomend is making sure you’re up to date on everything.
I don’t really see anything off about your hardware, it’s all well within the reccomended spects.
If you use any stats/performance tracking software, I’ve found that some of this software can interfere with programs in unexpected ways. For example, AMD’s own GPU software suite (not the driver itself) includes performance tracking features that can’t be turned off, and whenever the software was installed, I would have a 5 or so second delay before any GPU-utilizing software would launch. It didn’t affect the performance in game, but literally every game or other graphics software I used would have a long delay before launching. When I uninstalled it and went driver-only, the problem went away.
Having said that: The next thing to do is check for software that could be interfering.
hit Windows key+R and type msconfig and hit enter
click the services tab, check the box that says “hide all microsoft services” and then click “disable all”
Reboot. Try to run the game. If it works, check the boxes next to the services you disabled one at a time until you find the culprit. If it doesn’t work, continue to the next step.
hit ctrl alt del and open Task Manager. Go to the Startup tab. Go down the list of startup apps and make a note of what is enabled so you don’t forget. Then right click everything that’s enabled in the list and click disable. These two steps ensure that we have as little background stuff running as possible.
Reboot. You will probably find some stuff doesn’t work correctly but this is just for testing purposes.
Try to run the game. If it works, re-enable startup items one at a time until it doesn’t work again, and you’ve found your culprit.
If the process above doesn’t help, then I don’t have many ideas left.
Hey Captain, so I updated to Windows 11, disabled all non windows services, and disabled all start up programs, rebooted, no dice… Thanks for trying to help
The only remaining suggestions I could offer are to uninstall your gpu drivers and try an older version. Especially if the game worked once before and doesn’t work now.
Also… the game should run without any compatability mode features enabled, so take those off just to be sure.
That’s about all I’ve got, Only suggestion that remains is a refund. Sometimes the support reps might have something to offer that I can’t think of, but I haven’t seen one of them in here in months.
