Can we get better Foliage? Not some fake soccer field grass?

Seriously the demo had 1 noticeable problem.

The terrain had terrible quality. Look like they put minimum effort into it. I feel like I could make it better with just the world editor.

They need to add lots of detail to the environment.

Soccer pitch looking grass.

tall grass and proper weather dynamics with updated textures and sounds would be awsome.

Having some creatures and flowers here and there spark the game.

Also some people were talking about weather physics like snow slowing units by 2% etc.

Tht would be awsome but its not in the engine. I wonder if they could add that in reforged as an option for campaign? Maybe add it to the engine?

I agree with you, but the terrain is still being worked on. The developers said they were not happy with it yet and that they were going to improve it.
I don’t know about the weather phyics, I suppose it’s not on the table right now, they must have a lot of priorities to deal with first.

the textures in the demo are obviously not updated yet, its already been discussed a lot around here if you just take a minute to search a little

Pete Stilwell actually mentioned this in one of the first interviews. They wanted to add 3d assets to the terrain but because they’re using the old engine and the terrain working the way it does it’s just not possible. This doesn’t mean they can’t add doodads foliage and vegetation on top of it and I’d expect them to do that once those models are done.

Doodads, another pass on the textures, and bumpmapping would be enough to ‘save’ it, I’d wager.

Yo, if you speak about 3d grass that might be very true.

Also 3d terrain is not possible as system integration in current old classic wc3 mpq system,without changing that system.

In old wc3 3d terrain integration is possible only for map system of wc3

Here is the proof, it is HD dota 1 for wc3. Those bricks you see on first picture used to be actually a spell , which has been turned into tile form.Its a simple square model on which you attach a 512x512 texture tiled (thats the maximum supported resolution)

This system directly avoid default mpq tile seams/grid that happens on every 64x64 square pixel,or reverse engeener system (124x124 pasted on 128x128 resolution where seams hardly could be seen ingame)

And if we talk about 3d grass it exist in some maps xD, but not sure how stable it can be.

Anyway, i am glad Reforged is coming out, cause this guy is selling a map for 250 dollars,just with a terrain finished (no actual gameplay,models etc).

And i cant wait Reforged, cause all of those greedy basta*** will dissapear in a 1 day , even in their own far east countrys where piracy is very high (where even their own legal community look at those guys with despise and throw them in illegal area)

And Mr.KingOmlette and Mr.Potato (your accounts name make a perfect meal for breakfast), this is 1 of the reasons i cry for Reforged has to be looking better than anything legal or illegal-piracy community had even been produced.
And the main effect that would best quality Reforged product would do is

1.Illegal individuals would loose a ground on which they previously could overcome old wc3 quality so drastically , that could sell those things.
If Reforged do a goodjob, those guys are DONE. They can not offer drastically better quality and manipulatively use it for selling purposes

2.Legal wc3 HD community would finally rest and enjoy Reforged by hitting play button.

It wouldnt be anymore following original concept in hd manner cause Reforged would do that job, but rather something more fan-based related with wow.

We would finally move on

Something they could do is to make idle animations for doodads like trees and grass to give the environment more life. Of course this would require players to have decent machines or it would take a toll.

I agree enviro need more life. Visual improvment on enviro can make everyone say : Wau.

Wouldn’t be hard at all…
It’s something you make in three steps in world editor…
1 created region around point
2 apply weather effect
3 event => unit enters region => set unit movement to 20%
(optionally you can check units already in the region when it is created and apply the movement… And also create another trigger for when the unit leaves the snowing region.

lol this is something that is already done in various custom maps.

if the classic team said it will be an issue because of the engine i would not bother with it, but that’s just me, i’d play this game even RF wasn’t even a thing and only patches kept coming out.

but in all honesty i think people need to cut out the demands in the graphics department, this is warcraft 3 we’re talking about. that’s the last thing anyone should care about.

well ye i agree with that, pathing can be polished ALOT.

also there is an issue with the game where if it has more then 800-900 units on them map unit movement will be delayed singleplayer or multiplayer, the best thing to do now is to first try and solve that somehow ?

Pathing needs polishing not a rework. I believe they can keep blocking while having a non clunk system.

But one of the big reasons for War3 reforged is to upgrade the art assets and art possibilities. It needs to look good or many people will not bite.

Those people are not considered playerbase by me, those are the same people that will just get the game play the campaign and be done with it.

then jump on every hate train every now and then because doing that is cool somehow ?

anyhow, what i was trying to say is outsiders are not the core playerbase and they will VERY EASILY deattach themselves from wc3RF a year after coming out.

but people like me that was here for 3 years, and people MUCH older then me that have been around since forever those are the core playerbase. and caring about graphics is the last thing in our checklist.

I respectfuly disagree. I have been playing Warcraft 3 and tinkering with the editor since the game came out, and I care about graphics too. Even if I don’t ask for top notch graphics, I expect an improvement, with a coherent art style.

Yeah my feelings are the same, my parents bought me a computer back in 2003 the first thing I installed was Warcraft III TFT it was the magic the computer had to me, I always played it but then came BFME,BFME II, Medieval 2 Total War, I was like I love Warcraft III alot more but look at those graphics but the real thing was when I saw WOTLK and started playing WoW, I thought that well this is still Warcraft III engine it can’t be impossible to use those epic graphics in a RTS game, I learned ‘retro porting’ models from WoW to Warcraft III and started modelling it became so obvious to me when MOP came out Warcraft III graphics were not even able to ‘blend’ with WoW anymore and after that I started ‘remaking’ Warcraft III models and started making HD mods and I’m proud that I worked on probably the most successful one: Armies Of Azeroth for SC 2 and Warcraft: Rebirth for WC III, the Reforged announcement was the world to me cause after spending years and knowing that we just can’t do everything alone I was just so hopeless thinking whole day like ‘how can I make ships, how can I make textures of this, how can I retopo this, how can I make this model blend with others’ etc everyday, Reforged brought the hope and l said ‘The thing we(I) always wanted is here!’ all I want first from Reforged is really making ‘loyal to old Warcraft III’ HD graphics or make it a really good base for again adding the community made HD mods and finally complete them for people with different tastes.

Careful Stormknight, don’t start another them vs us argument. It goes without saying that blizzard want reforged to appeal to new players as well as old. On top of that your argument does not hold up as reforged mostly focuses on remastering the graphics with some tool and interface changes to make the game more convenient for a modern audience. It is not a warcraft 4 (sadly). Before someone feels like arguing about this, it is not a statement it is a fact. Would some of us want more of a change than that? Sure but that’s not what reforged is about.

As far as the graphic goes I can assure everyone that the environment will be addressed one way or another, no need to worry. Most likely through doodad models and better looking weather effects and if we’re lucky maybe some additional idle animations.

Pathing is a tricky one. Personally I would also like to see some improvements there as well but in interviews they made clear they had no intention in touching this and understandably so. Changing the pathing would change the entire gameplay and force them to rebalance the game accordingly. On top of that it would aggravate a lot of old fans. Been a lot of threads about it already, people tend to have strong feelings about it like selection cap.

I believe this is possible as well but it’s not as easy as just changing the shape of the colliders. If they did that we would immediately lose the body blocking mechanic. It would require some more heavy lifting to make it work and therefore can’t be on the priority list.

This has nothing to do with tile design and 3d assets but yes, this is doable and been done in many existing custom games. Not very useful for melee maps though.

All I care for is to fix the stupidity of Lorderan Summer theme and its stupid creeps, we want more themes and creeps to play with. Enough is enough we are sick of Lorderan and its creeps.
