Campaign Crashing Reforged mode

Is there a fix for this? Reinstall?

Depends on the crash. Many instances of crashing can be worked around/avoided. In many cases, always starting a mission from scratch and completing it in one go will avoid a crash. Certain other crashes are more specific, including one where clicking on a barracks multiple times at once can cause a crash, among other things.

As a last resort, the final workaround if you can’t get around a particular crash is to use the “allyourbasearebelongtous” cheat code to skip the mission that’s blocking you. Using this will not prevent you from earning the achievements/profile icons associated with the campaign.

This is a known issue. Reinstalling won’t fix it. The word on Reddit is the Public Test Realm (PTR under game version in the launcher) has the issue fixed, so we’ll just have to wait for the PTR to become the Live version. For now there’s nothing we can do but wait.

The current PTR is an older game version. It won’t be going to production.

I am mostly a modder who doesn’t bother to play campaign so I am giving secondhand information, but a lot of times over the last year when players had this problem now that showed up, the tired+ fired old Reforged employees would get on and post that in order to reduce the likelihood of a campaign crash you guys should set Spell Effects detail settings to Lowest in the graphics options. One or more of these crashes might be related to the 2023 version of the Reforged game and how it handles PopcornFX particle rendering technology.

Sadly incorrect. Idk what reddit post you read but it’s 1.36 on PTR. It’s even an older build than what’s live–presumably due to some hotfix(es).

It appears the game is dead. No word, no news for months now. I have lost hope that the campaign will ever be fixed and I just check once a month for a pulse these days.

was this fixed? i dont see anyone complaining about campaign mode in reforged crashing any more. but at the same time i dont want to invest in yet another 30-40 mins for the game to crash again.

I’ve accepted the fact that i wont be able to use reforged mode in Custom games as before the initial updates 1 year or so ago that started to crash reforged mode it was working fine.

But at least make reforged mode work in campaign mode.

Yes, it was fixed: By reverting all the updates and improvements made to the campaign in previous patches.

It wasn’t necessary to resolve the crashing but they were too lazy or incompetent to fix it properly so they just reverted everything except the audio.

I’ve never disabled reforged mode and have had no issues playing popular custom games, as most of them have been updated for this version of the game.

Captain, where are you getting this information? The campaign crashes for me on the old patch, but on the new patch it does not crash even if I play the campaign map files from the old patch.

So, the campaign changes revert did not fix the crashes. In my case, the crashes were fixed because the stupid C++ programming error with the new PKB format from last year was resolved [in the one case that was clearly reproducible for me].

You seem to be joining the (potentially unfounded?) narrative from the ignorant new developers that the campaign change revert fixed the crashes. But I can literally test the before/after on my computer because I keep the old versions, and the old campaign map opened on the new game 1.36.1 version still does not crash.

So, it’s more likely that they reverted all of the campaign upgrades because they don’t give a care and not because it helped with the crashes.

I don’t think you’re understanding. All this talk of narratives and stuff, we’re not telling a story here, this is just about facts.

If the campaign maps from the previous version don’t crash on the current version, then the campaign revert was entirely unnecessary as that would mean they actually did fix the crashes.

It’s strange that you seem to be arguing with me when we’re on the same side. Nobody wanted this campaign revert, and fixing the campaign crashes was the reason given by Blizzard for doing it.

Doing the revert is more work than not doing the revert, and fixing the crashes is more work than not fixing the crashes. So “We don’t care” isn’t a logical explanation because if it was a matter of caring, it makes more sense to do nothing rather than do anything. You don’t really need to convince me of how much anyone cares, because we all already know the answer is “not much.” It makes no sense to make a patch at all if you simply don’t care.

The TL;DR here is, well… I’m not really sure what the point of your post is.
