You can still play in old graphics if you want. Game will have similar feature as wow did with old models. Personally I like the new models, but I’m actually more excited about modernised matchmaking system and hopefully larger player base. There have been so many negative posts made here, mostly by just a few people, idk is this toxic spreading a thing now or what? We wanted an overhaul of w3 for years, since w4 obviously isn’t happening - because mmorpg has larger player base than rts + easier to charge for monthly sub. The fact that lead artist left doesn’t really tell us anything, since he didn’t state why, but at this point all models are probably already done anyway, it may have been just his last project he was working on.
This is disconcerting so close to release, hopefully has little impact and was planned.
The damage has been done by him, we can’t change it…
But
Dear Mr. Stilwell,
Please delay the game and rescue what you can.
idk about starcraft and what art style they choice but Sousa was the guy who said (every rts/moba game tryed to copy the classic W3 with cartoonish look, and its 2019, he though reforged should step up and make a change in the rts/moba industry with a realistic art style. not follow the cartoonish style . and we see age of empires is coming with amazing graphics, i bet RTS genre will be revived.
PS: a msg to Mr. Stilwell, take your time, we dont want rushed half finished game, delay it if u must. peace
AoE2DE added more content, changed a lot about the old Campaigns (even replaced a Campaign altogether), added more civs, and actually plays like a modern RTS.
Warcraft 3 Reforged does neither of these.
i wanna add and ask Pete, who is the new art director? or the team has no leader at the moment?
I think Pete needs to inform us about this cause this is a pretty big deal.
SC:R looks amazing what are you talking about?
uhm what? SC remaster is basically the old one with way more pixels, no models/ concept change whatsover. It’s basically what a remaster is: same game but sharper and HD textures. I don’t see how he “ruined the art” if it’s just the same…
… to people who say SC Remaster is good from artistic point of view, no it isn’t. A lot of original art assets are better designed and better fit entirety of picture as a whole. From Briefing room backgrounds -> Portraits -> Loading screens etc. They went from 3D renders to mediocre 2D drawings (take protoss victory/defeat screen for example or lots of unit portraits lost their character). It is a delicate thing to some, and more obvious thing to others, but it is hard to explain it to basic people who say: “aha - sharper graphics = better graphics”. Anyway… back to topic.
It is a good thing Brian left.
too bad SD graphics mode in starcraft 1 is bugged. the menus is a mess now.
yea… its not bugged, its destroyed… in order to make it compatible with update they corrupted original files…
destroyed would mean that it is not working. it is working, it is just out of alignment.
destroyed:

(remove x)
i need nothing destroyed there.
The character called the Death Knight is edgy? Whoa… hold the phone…
Won’t lie, yeah. I see the differences. But they’re absolutely minor.
Better offer elsewhere?
As far as Im aware the Ao2DE campaings are NOT changed from the originals, other than with the voice acting, but by all means do provide me links/information that would prove otherwise. Also fans didnt even ask new civs to be added in, in fact most fans are now AGAINST adding any new civs to the game cause it already had 32 of them and DE increased that amount to 35…as if there werent enough of them already…
Also Gameplay/design wise AoE 2 was quite different to Warcraft III to begin with…and I personally understand fully why Blizzard chose NOT to make changes to the gameplay, because they wanted the game to play and feel EXACTLY the same for competitive players as well as having the ability for the original and Reforged players to play on same servers…if they had changed ANYTHING in the gameplay, that would not have been possible anymore.
So in that aspect I think its useless to try compare the two…they were different RTS games to begin with in terms of gameplay and design in particular and I understand completely why they didnt want to change anything in terms of gameplay…AoE 2: Definitive Edition meanwhile was NOT designed to be playable online with AoE 2:HD, let alone original AoE 2 players.
Also In case you arent aware, WC3: Reforged WILL still have some of its maps redesigned, just like they originally planned. So I bet in that aspect WC3 campaign maps will actually see more changes to the original than what AoE2 campaign maps had.
So far from what campaign gameplay I have watched from AoE2, the map layouts are EXACTLY the same as they always were…and I never saw anywhere that AOE2: Definitive Edition even would have had goals to change those campaign map layouts, so I honestly dont know what the heck you are even talking about in that regard…
Also in regard for the actual topic, there has been rumors/news flying around for long time now that people at Blizzard Entertainment are NOT happy at all how Activision-Blizzard is trying to control them…(and which likely was the reason Bungie finally decided to break away from their contract with Activision in first place) Activision-Blizzard has had clear strategy for long time now to push for mobile games and only focus in franchises/series that profits them the most…and everything else gets thrown under the buss.
That combined with the recent Hearthstone/Shanghai/China thing are imho the main reasons that so many people have left Blizzard and will likely continue to leave.
They are changed even on map layout, but not all missions, just the most outdated ones. The El Dorado campaign was also replaced by the more historical Pachacuti campaign.
There are numerous threads on Steam asking for even more civs, so fans actually want more in the game.
Well again just like what they are doing with Reforged…they are NOT replacing all the all map layouts in Reforged either, that was never the plan but update those that most needed it in terms of the places looking more like they do in the MMO
Also El Dorado campaign wasnt originally part of Age of Empires II campaigns, its not something that Ensemble did, but what the “Forgotten Empires” team who were responsible for AoE 2: HD (and apparently for the Definitive Editions as well) did. But anyhow as far as I can say about Warcraft III, it defintely didnt and doesnt need any such huge changes in its campaigns.
Also here you have AoE’s Creative Director, Adam Isgreen saying completely the opposite to what you are saying about people asking to add more civilizations…
xhttps://www.trueachievements.com/n39745/age-of-empires-4-dlc-microtransactions
“In fact, they’ve added so many civilisations to AoE II that fans have actually asked them to stop. “Our pro players are even like, please don’t add more civilisations, please do other things”."
I mean good job from the AoE Definitive Editions team, but I must emphasize here that Reforged team never promised new content in terms of entirely new missions/campaings and they also said right away they would keep the gameplay the same…
Thats why I cant understand why some people in their minds made Reforged to be like complete overhaul/remake when it was NEVER supposed to be that in the first place…
If people want new content for Reforged or another entirely new Warcraft RTS game with new game mechanics, then thats something they should request and show by supporting Reforged and then ask more post launch content and keep asking them to make Warcraft IV.
You know why Microsoft decided to revive Age of Empires in big way? Because people showed such massive support to AoE 2: HD Edition to begin with…that then encouraged them to make Definitive Editions of all previous games as well as have Relic develope Age 4.
Sadly, if people abandon Reforged now, then they can also kiss goodbye to any chances of there being another modern Warcraft RTS game (even in case should WoW one day end) or even get any new content for Reforged post launch. I mean I understand that people would have wanted more to begin with in Reforged and might not really trust modern day Blizzard to do good job anymore if there was new content, but anyhow those are just my thoughts about the matter.
