Among other things, the Twitter thread accuses Blizzard of using screenshots that players have taken, without credit, and using World of Warcraft screenshots for loading screen that are not even lore appropriate to Warcraft III.
Doesn’t matter what thread on twitter or who knows where accusing Blizzard for something with they are not related. While the fan art designer don’t ask for his rights for his arts the so called threats have no right to accuse Blizzard with anything.
And here as well, this is just a trolling entertainment.
Stealing artwork … in the end it is all Blizzard’s world, I would be proud if something I liked and did was used as inspiration in the game. I find the Tweet very stupid whoever wrote it…
Doesn’t blizzard own the rights to the characters and images of warcraft? Even if an artist made it, its not an OC its a blizzard product and blizzard property. Congratulations you are an idiot.
Shouldn’t you be trolling on a sunday and not a monday?
Technically a screenshot is not licenced to the person who takes it… Read the rules about uploading gameplay online. This complaint is just a joke.
Gameplay footage is technically owned by the company who made the game. Hence they can show any screenshots they want, even if fans took them but as long as the fans have not modified the image, such as putting their face over it or adding their own art work superimposed.
Like wise World of Warcraft is owned by Blizzard so they can use whatever artwork they want from it. Blizzard is even kind enough to allow players to port World of Warcraft assets to StarCraft II or Warcraft III without legal issues.
When Blizzard legally (albeit sleazily) denied the random e-sports guy his money and banned him, you outraged and decided to never buy another Blizzard game.
When Blizzard legally (albeit sleazily) used fan art of their own IP, you don’t care.
I would personally consider it a great honor if they used my fan artwork in the game. I would feel that I actually managed to contribute to the universe and felt it was worthy. But that’s just me.
Precisely, the artist of the Orgrimmar artwork has already said that they’re honoured to have it in the game. They also said that they would wait for the game to release before they contacted blizzard, because it could easily be an internal placeholder not intended to be published at all.
Also be aware that many fan artists are professional artist. Nothing stops Blizzard legally buying the rights to use the artwork commercially…
Take Carbot for example. His fan made artwork and designs have made it into StarCraft II, StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm, with Blizzard paying him for it.
