Authenticator (physical) doing strange things

I fear my old authenticator from 15 years ago is starting to fade away.
Its acting a bit strange lately.

HOWEVER!

8 years ago i bought a spare one!
Just unpacked it.

HOWEVER

I fear that when i remove the old authenticator I might only be able to add a phone authenticator.
Can anyonen clarify on this for me before I do the jump? xD

I dont have a smartphone. So without being able to add a physical authy I wont be able to use authy at all.

thanks in advance!

Found this on another Blizz forum, though the page redirect points to an unrelated thread:

2FA is not very effective unless the token generator is on a seperate device from the one you’re logging in on.

I would reccomend buying an old used cellphone for this purpose. You do not need to get a service plan with it. just connect it via wifi and use the authenticator app.

You can get crappy old cellphones on ebay for less than the cost of the physical authenticator token they sold. Without a smart device of some kind, even an old and crappy one, you’re not going to be able to use 2FA. So if you can’t obtain a device to download the authenticator app on, you’re going to need to remove the physical token from your account before it dies.

You could use an android emulator as well, however, like I said, for 2FA to properly serve its purpose, it needs to be on a different device.

You can still attach a physical authenticator.
