Of course a CG cinematic would be better. But it wouldn’t make sense to do it if they aren’t going to update the models in the TFT Intro and ending. No point making/using more modern Arthas and Illidan models and then immediately go into an upressed original ending.
I think at most we’ll get a more elaborate in-game cinematic.
That’s the only thing I’m considering. Of course, I don’t consider leaving the original in-game models… I’m talking about full CGI vs the NEW in-game models. Reading comprehension?
I don’t believe I implied that they would use old in-game models.
My point is if they’re not going to update the cinematics altogether, there’s no point for them to do a full-CGI cutscene of just the fight scene. It would be inconsistent to the rest of the cinematics in the game, just like the Reforged Announcement Trailer stands out if you put it side-by-side with the other original WC3 trailers. The fight scene comes right before the Arthas-climbing-Icecrown cinematic.
Of course, the in-game stuff isn’t that much better since the look is so different, but like you said, it fits more in the spirit of the original WC3 campaign.
Why? It wouldn’t even go against their promise not to update the cinematics. And it would cost not that many rupees to make a 30 sec scene.
I stand by my words. Can you imagine how long and chill is Arthas’ Frostmourne going to be? How he will penetrate Illidan’s rib cage with that cold ice of death?
My hope is that Illidonger’s Warglaives will be correctly-sized. The ones in Legion are ridiculously smol.
Do you mean they will take the Arthas and Illidan cinematic models circa 2002-3 and animate those in a new cinematic?
Do you want them to build new Arthas and Illidan models for just this cinematic? If they do this then yeah, the 30 second cinematic would look badass, but also cost a lot and take a LONG time to make, as well as make the ending cinematic look bad in comparison.
With an in-game cinematic, they will already have the in-game models for Arthas and Illidan made with all of Reforged’s revamp. Keep in mind that Blizzard’s classic department is different from the guys who do the cinematics. The cinematics department doesn’t just ‘upres’ a Reforged model and be done with it. Part of the reason why they could even do a Reforged cinematic is because they have the models available from working on Battle for Azeroth and Legion’s cinematic. Where are we going to find a modern Arthas and Illidan cinematic model? Those characters haven’t been seen cinematically since 2003 and 2009 (not counting HOTS cinematic, which uses the same Arthas model from Wrath).
And if they make new Arthas and Illidan cinematic models and not redo the TFT Intro and Ending, then it’s wasted resources. They’re not going to throw money on something that will be used once. If they didn’t already have an Infernal model from Legion and a bunch of armored footman and orc models available, they probably wouldn’t have been able to remake the teaser.
One thing I hope they do with that cinematic, CGI or otherwise, is they make it clear Illidan survives the fight since that was what they wanted to do the first time around.
the sad truth. arthas looks absolutely disgusting in the head. the exact opposite of the HOTS model. in hots his head looks amazing but his body and frostmourne look terrible. idk what is this trend with blizzard… CANT U JUST KEEP IT ORIGINAL?! why does arthas look like some child with that small head and baby face like he has come out of some cheap asian game… please
Let’s not put the Crown Prince Arthas skin in Heroes of the Storm up on a pedestal. It’s a really pinched, overly angular face that is its own spin on Arthas and not the most accurate thing either.
maybe because he’s supposed to be 24? sure he could look more masculine but if i had to choose i’d take baby-faced arthas over my-45-years-creepy-uncle-who-got-out-of-prison arthas
In-game models for me. I love how in Legacy of The Void, there was less need to rely on CGI as ingame models became more polished.
If anything, using in-game models for this important duel presents an unique opportunity to show off the art team’s hard work, and also makes the scene more in tune with the rest of the campaign.
