That’s sort of a visual problem that I hope will be fixed at release, or with future patches.
Canon says that Light abandoned Arthas completely, from the moment when he left his friend Muradin to die, and when he claims a powerful Rune Blade - Frostmourne.
From now on - He’s no longer have the ability to use the magic Holy Light.
Reforged confirmed it - Arthas no longer uses his Holy Book to Resurrect and Heal his people - Instead, he uses Frostmourne’s powers to do that.
The problem is - Corrupted Arthas still uses yellow light magic, which creates a plot hole.
To close it - I highly recommend you to re-color the ability color to blue/green/purple color, to show more necromantic nature of the blade. You can left icons the same, but the unholy color of magic will be a clever detail to the fact that Arthas no longer needed the help of the Light
Or they can ignore this stupid post that holds no significance to anyone but you, and concentrate on getting the game working in time for release date.
You know maybe optimise the game so that more people can run it without the game crashing and all the other sorts of BIG problems.
Mpak seriously I told you this a month ago nearly, go and find something else to do with your time until the release date.
You really are spending far too much time worrying about insignificant details that your going to mess yourself up if it continues!
And I say that from experience…
Stop worrying and go enjoy yourself playing something or watching things, stop stressing yourself out!
The light doesn’t “abandon” anyone. It supports you based on your own beliefs. If you don’t believe you’re doing the right thing, you can’t use the light.
Arthas probably thought he was doing the right thing until he killed Mal’Ganis and switched sides. And he probably didn’t have much of an idea on how to tap into Frostmourne’s power until later. You know, other than swinging it around.
“Muradin!”
The impact of the ice shard had knocked the dwarf back several feet. Now he lay sprawled on the cold stone floor, a spear of ice impaling his midsection, the blood sluggishly flowing around it. His eyes were closed and he was limp. Arthas scrambled to his feet and hastened over to his old friend and trainer, tugging off his gauntlet. He slipped an arm around the limp form, placing his hand on the wound, staring at it, willing the Light to come and limn his hands with healing energy. Guilt racked him.
So this was the dreadful price. Not his own life, but that of a friend. Someone who had cared for him, taught him, supported him. He bowed his head, tears stinging his eyes, and prayed.
It’s my folly. My price. Please- And then, like a familiar caress from a loved friend, he felt it. The Light raced through him, comforting and warm, and he bit back a sob as he saw the glow again begin to embrace his hand. He had fallen so far, but it wasn’t too late. The Light had not abandoned him. All he needed to do was drink it in, open his heart to it. Muradin would not die. He could heal him, and together they- Something stirred at the back of his neck. No, no, not the back of his neck…the back of his mind. He looked up quickly- And stared in wonder.
It had flung itself free to imbed itself in front of him, its blue-white runes enveloping it in a cold and glorious light. His own Light faded from his hands as he rose to his feet, almost hypnotized. Frostmourne was waiting for him, a lover needing the touch of the desired one to waken to full glory.
The whispering in the back of his mind continued. This This was the path. It was foolish to trust in the Light . It had failed him, repeatedly. It had not been there to save Invincible, had not been enough to stop the inexorable march of this plague that was on its way to wiping out the population of his kingdom. The power, the strength of Frostmourne- was the path. It was foolish to trust in the Light. It had failed him, repeatedly. It had not been there to save Invincible, had not been enough to stop the inexorable march of this plague that was on its way to wiping out the population of his kingdom. The power, the strength of Frostmourne-that was the only thing that could stand against the might of a dreadlord. was the only thing that could stand against the might of a dreadlord.
Muradin was a casualty of this awful war. But hopefully, his sacrifice would be the last. Arthas got to his feet and took unsteady steps toward the radiant weapon, his hand, still wet with the blood of his friend, outstretched and trembling. It closed on the shaft and his fingers curled around it, fitting it perfectly, as if the one was made for the other.
Sounds like he still believes in doing what he thinks is the right thing (stopping the Dreadlord). I’m skeptical whether he lost the light (you can’t actually lose the light btw) or he just chose not to use it in that specific instance. He might still want to use it in combat to augment his abilities with Frostmourne. He’s obviously not right in the head.
I’m pretty sure Arthas thought he lost the light after the Dreadlord fight while going mad in the caves with Frostmourne though. Not before
In the Warcraft Universe Light isn’t something physical, not just photons, but something living, something holy, something blessful as much as the Void
The Light has it’s own mind and will,It’s own followers, the Light itself chooses the paladins.
And Light is helping you, until you believe in it,intil you’re doing the right thing, until you’re spreading it’s will to others.
But Arthas no longer need Light’s help. He’s no longer uses Holy Book of Palladins,He’s no longer respect the light,Silver Hand,His friend,Even his people
- “Lead your men home!”
- “Damn the men!”
Arthas no longer a paladin,he’s no longer believe in light,he
despises it. It “betrayed” him,and only Frostmorne can help him do what he wish
Source? From what I understand, the light is not a living, thinking thing. It’s not a god. It’s just power, which can be used for either good or bad. All you have to do is believe in what you’re doing, which is why if you want to fight a paladin, you just need to make him doubt that he’s making the right choice. Then he loses his power.
Example of light being used for bad: Scarlet Crusade
The Light (also known as the Holy Light) is an endless, shimmering sea of energy situated outside the barriers of reality and one of the two most fundamental forces in the world of Warcraft along with the Void, which was born from the absence of the former. The two cannot exist without the other.
Pure Light cannot exist within the physical universe but shades of it manifest as holy magic
That doesn’t disprove anything. In fact, it supports my claim that the light is just power, energy.
The Void has it’s Lords,It’s will,it’s world and creatures.
The Light - is the Oposite of the Void.
Even if to use it you only need to believe in it - Arthas did not. Arthas rejected it from the moment he saw the Frostmourne.
The void has things that use it. Those things that use the void have their own will.
Example: you can be a void elf or whatever in WoW. That doesn’t make you good or evil. You choose that.
Arthas chose not to use the light in that situation. Clearly he does believe killing the dreadlord is the right thing to do though.
But on the other Hand - Void can corrupt your body and soul, drive you crazy,as much as Fel,as much as Light itself forced Drenai to spread it’s will in Alternative Dreanor
True,he does, but it was his words that the Light is Useless. Believe in it is foolish. The Light wouldn’t help him in his opinion - Only Frostmourne
Do you have a source for that? I thought it was just some light creature that Illidan killed.
“Canon” from warcraft 3 old lore.
In the current lore of WoW the light is more a force inside of you. If you believe you are right and you believe in yourself you can use the light. If you have self-problem, doubt or other influences you can lose it.
Arthas try to use the light but the shock of losing muradin is made him panic and can’t heal him so he grab frostmourne that with the lich king whisper keep the light off.
When in WoTLK Arthas awake and rip his heart off is where he lose the light forever, because he lost his umanity.
For made it simpler: “you believe you are a good guy? You believe the others are bad? You believe it? Good! You can use the light at MAX POWER”
This is why Velen and his draenei and the scarlet crusader are the most powerful light wielder. The draenei because they fucking speak with the naaru so they literally understand the light more than other races and believe deeply in Velen and so they KNOW they are right. The scarlet crusade are zealot, they believe anything outside them are monster so they can use the light against anyone.
In the old lore (this one is still canon) turalyon have problem to use his ability in the second war because he can’t understand how to use the light in battle. Because the light is a force of good, not for hurt (they simply say “Turalyon is a priest first, warrior second. Uther, Saydan, Gavinrad and Tirion on the other hand are first warrior and second they learn the light so for them is more simpler”)
The silver hand paladin (this one is retconed) can’t hurt human being with they light because THEY BELIEVE THAT.
So if someone of them believe that the light can hurt people the light work.
This is why when Uther made the ritual for strip tirion of the light was so much hilarious. Because Tirion after that try to save eitrigg and can use the light. Because the light is not a force that you can strip from people. It comes from your humanity.
In alternative Dreanor - The Race of Drenai has been obsessed with Light’s will, and start agressivly spreading it through the planet, killing anyone against them - For example - they killed Alternative Grom Hellscream in Mag’char quest line in BfA

Sounds like that was the Naru not the light. The Naru could have been lying to Draenai about knowing the light’s will. After all, the Naru and the light are clearly different things.
Naru are the closest thing to Light. They are literally made out of it and had been born with it’s will
Good point but still - If Arthas no longer Believes in Light. If He’s no longer wants it help…Then why he uses it,if there would’ve been much more sence for Ner’zhul to give Arthas new powers, close to light, but unholy?
Weird enough, the canon I’ve played let me resurrect and after Arthas claimed the blade
If an atrist failed to add proper casting animation it his/her fault and he/she to blame for what you call a plot hole
As it’s said: “The Light abandon snowman”
That is the plot hole - He doesn’t have Light’s power at that time. Frostmourne Necro-Abilities - Yes,but not the light
If they add yellow magic to obviously unholy powers - that’s a plot hole that needs to be fixed
Does it even matter if Arthas can wield light at this moment? (Even though Light gave him one last chance to return to him and almost ressurect Muradin, but well… then comes the part we all know… the blade fell in front of him or wherever and started whispering to him)
The reason why that to me is irrelevant is that this part of lore has obvious plothole… Muradin was left to die… Later when Arthas became DK, he returned to Northrend and killed all the dwarves he met, the ex Muradin pals… (on his way to Azjol Nerub), and even the dwarves say he killed him, which means they didn’t save him after that time Arthas was gone from Northrend… yet the game later bring Muradin back alive… lol… He just popped up alive and healthy, saying he was only in concussion… which totally makes sense for a Paladin to not realize if someone has concussion or he’s dead, so he sees the need to Ressurect that person (in the end he doesn’t but he wanted for a short moment).
It was said muradin was found by his ex pals etc that stayed on Northrend and brought him home and who knows what.
I simply cannot believe they are making these mistakes, these are to me, childish mistakes… And examples like this you have on dozens, which is why i simply cannot accept WoW lore, nor i ever will…
You build entire events around a tragic sacrifice of one of Arthas most close friends, and then only to return players to MMORPG, you simply decide you need more Big names, so you say: oh it was just a concussion, he is fine.
After that, i really don’t care if he wields light - colored in yellow, green or purple… I hope my son or grandson get to play wc4, made with some actual sense.
