Arclight Rumble?

You have got to be kidding me. WC3 is still in shambles and they are putting their money and time into creating some stupid “mobile RTS” game that looks like candy crush reborn? what the heck is going on here?

Mobile is a money printing machine, you can make an absolutely poopy game with microtransactions and SOMEONE will buy it/them. You can also easily pawn off the job to a literal mobile game making factory in China and not have to make it yourself. I’m actually pretty stunned they decided to make a PC client for Diablo Immortal, even after the “DO YOU GUYS EVEN HAVE PHONES?” debacle.

PC and console games take stupid amounts of money to make and the profit margins are way lower.

The problem with the coporate thinking on that, is people still want those quality experiences, and there is hardly a mobile game out there that delivers a persistent high quality experience- phones are just not nearly as capable as desktop PCs. All phone games are designed to be played for 5 mins at a time on the bus or in the car or whatever. Thus they can reach more people because people always have time to waste.

But people who play PC games (or console games even) are going to play them for hours at a time. Totally different audiences.

I’m not sure what’s so surprising, or how there’s any kidding. Bliz is putting resources into a profitable sector. You may not like mobiles games, but a huge proportion of the gaming world does.

Giving credit where credit is due, Arclight Rumble is actually really good. Didnt think i would ever enjoy a mobile game…

I guess it is surprising that they turned to this. At this point they may as well turn to Warcraft Casino and Diablo slots…

Mmm wait, first and most important question: is it allowed in china?

Probably developed by Tencent since it owns part of Acti-Blizz.

It would be more accurate to say “a huge portion of the non-gaming world.”

People who play phone games are not typical gamers for the most part. They’re just average people who happen to have a computer in their pocket and some time to kill. They aren’t looking for an experience, they’re just looking to fill some time.

And this is a large part of why Blizzard got booed when they tried to hype up a new mobile game in front of an audience of PC gamers looking for a new epic experience.

It’s Microblizz now

I think that the main problem is that once Blizzard was a leader, after Heroes of the Storm they just struggle to follow… and pretty late too tbh…

My point is that Bliz develops video games, and there has been a huge market for mobile video games for a while now. Hence why they are apparently breaking out into that market.

If you want to split PC and mobile game players and call the latter non-gamers, that’s really just irrelevant semantics in the context of why Bliz seems to be making mobiles games now.

You’re not wrong, it’s just frustrating for gamers on other platforms that people keep trying to make these low effort money printing machines instead of the actual fun games their customers want. i.e. prioritizing investors over clients. It’s just the way the world is now, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.

Disclaimer: That isn’t to say there aren’t any good mobile games, bu t the vast majority of them are purely made as cash grabs and without the heart that is really needed to make a truly great experience.
