Anyone know what the fabled "Dragon Race" was?

Back in the early days of WC3 dev there was an idea for a Dragon Race that had only 1 unit.

Does anyone know the specifics of this?

Like what the idea was? How it would get gold or lumber etc?

All you want to know about scraped races seems to be contained in the “Factions” section of this wiki article:

It was mentioned in a Gamespot video talking about their (offscreen) interview with Blizzard devs who worked on Warcraft 3. Basically the number of races in development were constantly shifting, and depending on who you talked to, you got different answers about the state of development for each race. Stuff like Night Elves riding Insects and Dwarves riding Spiders were on the table at one point, and no one really seems to be sure how far those concepts were taken (though likely not much more than brainstorming).

The Dragon race was mentioned alongside this as one unit that you play that grows and becomes stronger. That’s about it. Nothing else is known because the idea was probably someone’s brainfart during a meeting, and they didn’t even get to anything beyond that.

As for resources, keep in mind that WC3 was a very different game conceptually at the start than it is today. It wasn’t just Gold and Lumber, they played around with many more resources in the game, as well as having some resources exclusive to some races. Mana stones were supposed to be what the Legion used, as well as being a resource to upgrade your heroes. Corpses were also intended to be a resource for undead, moreso in the creation of units and not just a mechanic for Skeletons, Cannabalize and Animate Dead. So honestly, if they took the route of adding a Dragon race, I’d imagine it would be played out like the monster in Evolve or the giant in Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

I mean there was a giant dragon shown in the demo for WC3 when it was still dubbed a ‘Role Playing Strategy’, when the game was played in 3rd person over the shoulder, close to the ground.
