Add a reconnect function to melee and custom games. Sometimes you get the occasional disconnects, and the game would be more enjoyable if there was a function to reconnect back. Have maybe a 10 min timer for reconnect window would be really nice to have.
Unfortunately the way the game is designed it isn’t really practical to have. And 10 minutes is an eternity in an RTS game and in most cases, your game is likely to be unrecoverable or over by then.
It would also likely be rather costly for them to implement and I don’t think they’re willing to spend much more on this game once they’re done with the patches they had planned.
10 min is a time window in which you are allowed to reconnect. You might be able to reconnect within 30-60 seconds with no problems.
I’ve had several games where games are going good for 30 min just to be DC’ed and be automatically lose the game. I am mostly a custom map player and I know several people would love a reconnect feature to be added.
I don’t think it is a solution that is that costly tbh when there are 3rd parties who are able to do it with no problems. There has to be a way to implement such a heavily asked feature when 3rd parties such as gproxy or wc3champions are able to make reconnect with no source code available.
We can debate the merits of this, but it’s extremely unlikely this will ever happen because of the work involved relative to the work being put into the game.
And to be frank, I"ve never had a disconnect from the game where I wasn’t actually having connection issues on my end, so I don’t feel like the problem is what it is being made out to me. That is purely opinion, of course, but based on observation.
This feature has been present on W3Champions for a while. It’s a non-trivial task though to implement into the base game - we looked into it before.
So you can crash out of the game completely, and reload the game and rejoin it? First I’ve heard of this.
The “waiting for players” screen is NOT a reconnect feature. It’s just a “can yall please wait a moment for me to send my next packet?” feature. You still have to be in the game, and the players in the game can get tired of waiting and drop you.
But yes, my point this whole time was that it would have been a considerable amount of work to implement on an official level, and that’s what no one seems to understand.
I’m not referring to the waiting screen, although W3C does also have that.

Can’t see how such a big company such as blizzard can’t make a feature such as reconnect when there are other 3rd parties who are able to do it with no problems. They even have the source code and should have 0 problems making a reconnect feature. And it wouldn’t need to be in such a official level, a crude option would also be most welcome to combat the DC’s. I and many others who have asked for such a feature would love to see this being added and it should be something the wc3 devs should prioritize.
Well, a big company such as blizzard wasn’t able to deliver the promised co-op features that, for many basically made overwatch 2 actually look like a sequel, or deliver key features that a game already had until years after it’s launch (war3), and so on…
Arcitct, whom you see above, was working on the game before things went to pot, and he just said that such a feature was considered and ultimately rejected.
Game dev projects typically have a certain budget, and every new feature, big or small, has a cost. If they want to exceed that budget to squeeze some other new feature in, no matter how talented the team is, they’re going to have to ask the bigwigs for more money, and as we saw, especially prior to the original launch, Activision was starving the War3R project of both money and support which is the entire reason the launch failed so badly.
