From Forbes: “Activision-Blizzard’s fourth financial quarter is almost at an end. 2019’s Q4 report is scheduled for February 6th, which is next Thursday. That means that even with a delayed release of January 28th, 2020 the game’s first week-and-a-half of sales will count toward ATVI’s net sales and profits.”
Basically they released an unfinished game so that it would make 4th quarter sales look a bit better for shareholders.

also in january they partnered with youtube for streaming and signed a 6 mil contract with esl for esports tournaments so it’s trying to consolidate moves into one impactful quarter on their end
