by god please revert that change, we cant find any games its so annoying for premades in 3v4, 4v4 - player base is just not big enouggh, bring back unranked play and just let people find games fast no restrictions - jesus christ so frustrating - the one good thing about reforged actually removed - how sad

That’s pretty much what opponents said would happen if the change was made. But there was such an outcry from the proponents about the match quality being so bad with AT vs RT.
So here everyone is. Reaping what was sown.
It’s humorous because we looked at the data back in 2019 and it was completely clear that AT vs RT was necessary despite the obvious issues with stacks.

the whole reason this change was made was because so many people complained about ATs smashing the crap out of RTs all the time. Can’t have your cake and eat it too here. an opt-out option might create a middle ground, but that’s about all they could do. I imagine that most players would opt out though, so I don’t know if that would actulally help.
Basically the feedback from the community told blizzard longer wait times was better than severely imbalanced matches.
Not saying either one is right or wrong here, just putting out the explanation.
Perhaps match quality is better now, but it came at the cost of basically eliminating the possibility of playing with friends.
I will say though, it does seem like the no AT vs RT crowd yelled a lot louder than the yes crowd.
Though my personal stance has always been that the best thing to do is probably to keep AT vs RT but add some balancing factor to the algorithm so that an AT faces stronger RT opponents (in terms of MMR) than AT opponents to mitigate the advantage that comes from playing with people you know.
