2018 Demo was Same, Change My Mind

The 2018 Demo that was shown on the stage at Blizzard is the same game engine and looks the same as what I have in the 2019 Beta, and I am happy for my purchase.

I saw another thread today where someone disagreed. I challenge you to illustrate for me why I am wrong.

Same engine yes but, terrain is not fully updated, but we have 2 more weeks to see what will happen.

There is a small difference in Lordaeron tree design and grass.

The 2018 demo looked like a WoW-themed StarCraft II map I tried out years ago.

The current look actually looks and feels like Warcraft. I approve the change.

The models don’t fit on that terrain. its like driving a 2019 car in sahara desert.

Well, that terrain is required for crossplay. Sorry, pal.

why cause of lag? ping? low fps? we know is the same engine, just the visual effects (+ another layer of grass perhaps) of the 2018 demo is different than the one we have now.

Because you can’t have Reforged using advanced terrain and Classic using the same old terrain and expect them to be compatible.

so u r saying classic and reforged are going to have the same setting options?
How do u know that?

I said nothing about setting options.

Or do you mean maps? Because if you meant maps, I know because Blizzard confirmed it themselves multiple times in interviews.

I meant terrain in general, it would be good to add a more advanced settings, like dota2 , u can select to have grass or not, grass animation etc, for pro player ik they would remove all the effects, but i don’t play like that. i want to expand and explore the map, attack with full armies. and i love realism in games, and good visual quality.
The thing is Classic team ( Brian Sousa most likely decided to go for realistic art style, and now hes gone so who knows)
But Pete said they are working on more advanced terrain, if i’m not wrong.

Well, funnily enough, I could have sworn I saw 3D grass blades on the terrain the last time I played the beta.

There is , but i said maybe they need to add option in the setting to select grass or no grass, for pro players.

Trees and grass are objectively better in the demo. There is no debate.

Looks about the same to me tbh. The only thing missing is the demo’s StarCraft 2 color filter.

Personally I don’t like the desaturated filter in SC2 but… the models are just way too realistic looking for the terrain we have in beta. In my comparison you can see that the grass and trees are more realistic and cast shadows and so forth. The unit models in the demo actually look like they belong in the game.

I’ll see if I can get a higher resolution of the demo so you can see what I’m seeing.

Honestly the main difference I could see in 2018 demo was the user interface/hud. The lighting in that spesific map could be different than it is “normally” to create more gloomy/darker atmopshere fitting for the Culling mission, but other than that and the terrain/trees looking bit different, it honestly isnt that big of a difference to my eyes atleast.

Yet from the complaints of some people here you get the picture like we would talk about two entirely different games or significant downgrade, which my honest opinion the beta in its current state atleast (after the most recent patch) isnt really…but once the game is released and you can play the Culling mission in Reforged campaign yourself, then people can finally make direct comparisons.

By the time the game is released blizzard will no longer make any changes to the visuals. That’s the problem.

Maybe I’m a huge graphics nerd because seeing a downgrade like this is driving me nuts.

yeah, the model didnt rlly suit the terrain at all, but i feel the terrain in demo definitely looks much better than this beta.

Hey, Toaster, I like that you’re offering an image but on my device the image loaded at a low resolution so all the stuff you were trying to compare looked the same in both versions because it was low resolution and hard to make out.

Is there a special option for the website you used there to make it load high quality images?

I don’t feel like I could agree or disagree on anything given how grainy that image looked on my device.
