2000 MMR vs 4000 MMR – Seriously?

I understand that the matchmaking algorithm prioritizes keep players’ pings low, which makes sense. But in most of the games I’m playing, the teams are wildly unbalanced in terms of skill. What’s frustrating is that within a given match, simply rearranging the players could result in much fairer teams—so this doesn’t seem to be an issue related to prioritizing ping.

I get that MMR and win percentage aren’t always reliable, especially when people are just starting to play on an account, but it really feels like the matchmaking system isn’t factoring in predicted skill level at all.

It’s just not fun to queue up for 4v4 when every game ends in a blowout—2000–3000 MMR, 30% win-rate scrubs getting steamrolled by 3500–4000 MMR players. Please consider improving the matchmaking system so noobs like me can enjoy team games again!

this is done to ensure that if there are only enough players for a game, that they can have one, as it’s better to have an unbalanced game than no game at all.

Save the replays and learn how the people blowing you out play the game, then you can be the one doing it.

Like I said, if one were to rearrange the players in a given game, it would be fairer.

Here’s an example of a game I recently played (with rounding):
Team 1: 2500, 3000, 3100, 3500
Team 2: 3000, 3200, 3500, 3900
That’s almost a 400-point gap in MMR.

You could rearrange the players in that game to make an MMR gap of 75 instead:
Team 1: 2500, 3100, 3200, 3900
Team 2: 3000, 3000, 3500, 3500

Same exact players, in the same game - just rearranged for a fairer matchup.

The issue isn’t that there aren’t enough players. The matchmaking algorithm simply isn’t functional.

I know and this is an issue I’ve highlighted in the past. That’s an entirely seperate issue from wait times though.
