Weird Lorebreaking Doodad Change Between SC1 and SCR

I figure with the new reskin, this is a good time to bring up an inconsistent doodad.

One of the Wasteland doodads, in SC1, had the Sons of Korhal symbol, the arm and whip. It was used in Mission 7 (The Trump Card) in front of the base, but doesn’t show up anywhere else in the campaign itself.

The problem is, SCR changed this to the symbol of the post-Brood War Terran Dominion.

Problems being this:

  1. This shows up in the first terran campaign, before the Terran Dominion was established
  2. Even the Dominion in SC1 and BW doesn’t use that symbol, they used the Sons of Korhal symbol. It was made after the Dominion was reformed in the aftermath of the Brood War, timelinewise first appearing in the comic Orientation.
  3. The original clearly uses the arm and whip Sons of Korhal symbol, so it’s a weird change especially when the development hyped up its purity to the base game.

Figured I’d harp on this, no clue how easy of a fix that would be.

They’ll fix that right after sprite misalignments

Nice catch, kudos to you. I appreciate ppl who find that tiny things. The oldeone is clearly “Sons of Korhal” symbol, the 2nd one is from “Terran Dominion” which was brough from SC2 so it’s lorebreaking indeed. Hope they will fix it + sprites.

I’ve been searching to no avail: could someone, anyone, please explain the sons of korhal logo to me?? All i can find is weak speculation on Reddit. Why the arm? Why the whip? What does it mean?
The choice of “stars and bars” perplexes me as well, but at least that was the symbol of one historical confederacy, albeit a white supremacist one. .

It is an easter egg to the Brotherhood of Nod from Command and Conquer.

The Terran Confederacy was obviously supposed to be the American Confederacy but in space, so that’s not confusing in the slightest.

The Terran Confederacy was used because of the “myth” of a rebellious government (as the supercarriers left a lot of gaps in Earth history) and was more the idea of being a government that broke from Earth than any deep racial reason. Source is the novel Liberty’s Crusade.

The SoK logo has no lore reasoning for it that has been revealed. Likely just a symbol of strength. could be an idea of breaking free from the bonds of the Confederacy.

The SC:R symbol is still the arm and the whip… it’s just angular instead of circular.
I don’t think it has changed the lore in any way. Feel free to prove me wrong!

It’s a good bit different. The arm and the whip is the symbol of the Sons of Korhal and used by the early Dominion. The later symbol is the Dominion after it reformed, and while it’s based off of the SoK symbol it represents a very different period of history. Even SCII makes a point of having both symbols be distinct, some old structures and Michael Liberty use the SoK symbol rather than the Dominion.

It’s like putting a US flag with 50 stars during the founding of the colonies. Similar, but it’s not right for that point in history.

Nothing out of the ordinary since they pretty much wanted to StarCraft II-ify Remastered anyway.

So UEDCommander made a version of the sign, usable in SCR, that has the lore accurate symbol, with full permission for the SCR devs to use it if needed. It’s a longshot but the sign looks pretty good and matches the style well.

Just in the off chance they do want to use the new design.
