The Citadel of Adun

This always struck me as a bit of a black sheep among buildings. It only exists for one upgrade and to delay the Templar Archives. Once you get leg enhancements, and build an archives, it’s pretty much a paper weight. No other building is really like this. Always wished it did SOMETHING else

Put it in front as a wall/cannon fodder :boom:.

It does affect strategy, especially at pro level. in P v Z, +1 early game zealot with speed is a very popular strategy. The cost of the citadel plus the upgrade most likely adds balance.

You could argue that the Protoss player will most certainly tech up to templar anyway but the costs associated with the citadel and legs balances the early game.

In addition, I assume that the concept of a combined building or a citadel that did more would have raised the initial outlay (affecting balance).

I take your point however. For whatever reason, the current setup just works.

Like other Protoss buildings it gives +1 armor bonus to shields per level for all units and structures. So it isn’t a complete paper weight

That still doesn’t make the building of any value after getting the Templar Archive & Zealot speed, but 1 another interesting thing about it, is that the left side of the Citadel is wide enough to make large ground units (Dragoons, Tanks, Lurkers) pass from it, even when a Pylon or so is touching its left.
