i tried to open sc but it Always says “game is running , an update is availabble when the game closes” but the game is already closed , what can i do?

Hey, resnico93! It sounds like StarCraft hasn’t picked up the 1.22.4.5959 update yet. There’s been discussion on the game is running, on this thread. Opening up Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and closing Starcraft.exe (32-bit) should bring up the Play button again. Otherwise, a reboot will restart these services.
If there’s issues with picking up the Version 1.22.4.5959, try clearing the cache and tools, then reinstall the Blizzard Application.

Just a side note that when this happens, you need to check your background processes. It took me a few minutes to figure this out when it started happening to me a few weeks ago. It seems to have gone away since.
When you open up the Task Manager, if you click on the ‘Processes’ tab at the top, it was never running in the ‘Apps’ list, it was always in the ‘Background Processes’ list which is the section below the ‘Apps’ list. Generally, the background processes list is much larger than the apps list which is why you can easily miss it.
Just thought I’d throw that in there.
I got the same problem. Starcraft.exe is always running in the background. Wtf is going on here??? Need to kill it in taskmanager to start broodwar from the launcher
