WyomingMyst here from the Overwatch forums. If you all like to see the maximum potential of the new platform, here are a few threads that I currently maintain on the Overwatch forums:
Here is a guide for optimizing one’s PC to run Overwatch at maximum performance. The nice thing about the new forums is that I can display images to help explain things in my guide that I could not do on the old forum platform. It has helped thousands of players already:
I also maintain a collective of all relevant developer responses (from the old forums, new forums, Reddit, etc.) to help provide a categorized directory for players to find answers to common questions about Overwatch quickly. To keep things organized, the links to each of the different posts are contained within the use of detail (a.k.a. Spoiler) tags for easy collapse based navigation.
In my most recent project, I am providing a WIKI thread (where everyone can edit the starting four posts) to help document the features of the recently released Overwatch “Workshop” Mod Tools which are being tested on its PTR right now. Any Trust Level 3 user can change their thread to a WIKI and anyone can edit a post marked as a WIKI (the owner of the post is notified everytime a change is made).
I also run “match discussion threads” of each of the Overwatch League matches which makes for a fun and slightly more civilized way to discuss with other players about the match in progress. Here I make use of good ol’ HTML to write out stylized tables to display scores and stats of each match. Users who participate in the discussion often post gifs and dank memes. Here is one such match…
New forum system is awesome. However I wonder if the posts and threads from the former forums will be migrated here or if all the information, community tips trivia, conversations with other users and so on will be lost. I hope they will bring it here.
I doubt that will last much longer. I can imagine they will ditch that sometime soon, why have two forum systems if you can only keep one and make it work in all your games?
I appreciate the new features, though it’s a shame old posts couldn’t be migrated over. As stated earlier, it’s unlikely that the current archive will remain up for very long.
It would be nice to know when users are allowed to post links. I was going to port the fan campaign listing over to the new forum, but until I’m able to provide links to the relevant materials, it seems rather pointless. Maybe someone who’s used this system more can clue me in.
The old forums will eventually be retired yes. However as a comparison the old Overwatch forums are still live in read-only mode and the new forum platform has been around for over 14 months now for Overwatch. I either anticipate that the old forums will retire either when all remaining games/platforms (StarCraft II, Diablo 3, Blizzard Classic Games/Battle.net) are migrated over, or they will keep the old forums up for an extended period of time. I myself have been working to image save all relevant “blue posts” from the Overwatch forums so that the valuable information from those forums will be preserved for that community.
The current system works on a Trust Level system. It only allows people of a high enough Trust Level to post links, first to trusted websites like Youtube or other Blizzard sites (At Level 2) and ending at the level where you can post links to any websites and embed images at will (At Level 3).
If all goes like I think it will, there will be a post by Pachimari or another MVP who can provide more details.
EDIT: Looks like Leviathan already linked one! Nevermind me then!
14 months? that’s a blink in a lifetime. SC is 20+ years old. -nuff said.
Hmm… At least that is something… but still, there were many many interesting threads with opinions of people that may not even come back for a long time, quite a waste!
Well, honestly I feel bad for many threads which should have been ported to these “new” forums. I don’t see why they didn’t move everything. Spamming some threads again while wasting some important information in their previous iterations isn’t quite smart.
