HELP! I can't play SC in MacBook

hi!! I have bought the Remastered sc, but when I start the game an error appears. “SC closed unexpectedly” I have MacBook m1!! thanks!

Same as me! Blizzard! Work on it plz!!!

There is a dedicated Mac Technical Support Forum here:

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/c/mac-technical-support/8

However; as slow as Blizzard is to respond here, in this Forum, it seems to take even longer to get a response there. Yet, there, there is a dedicated M1 Thread about this issue. It’s no longer the original thread from months ago, but it is a place to start.

In the original Thread from that Forum, I commented on the distinct possibility that because Catalina first deprecated OpenGL support, and Big Sur REMOVES OpenGL support on M1 computers, that the Rosetta 2 emulator CANNOT properly emulate OpenGL commands and references to be passed on to the M1’s GPU. (Which is all Apple Silicon, ARM processing, now.)

NO Blue ever came by in the original Thread that I posted in to verify or deny my hypothesis. Now, several new Threads about this problem keep popping up in the other forum. As newer and newer MacOS iterations come about, (Monterey expected to release this Fall), more and more stuff from Intel Macs will fall to the wayside and become defunct and non-functional on M1 Systems.

To properly run SC:R, now, seems to require an Intel Mac on Mojave 10.14.6 or Catalina 10.15.7 for BEST compatibility. ALSO, Intel Macs on High Sierra 10.13.6 WILL STILL function, but be prepared that when Monterey releases, that Blizzard MAY deprecate support for High Sierra. My hope is that they will keep High Sierra support for at least another year… Time will tell.

Good luck.

[EDIT:]

One other thing to note is that on Intel Macs that support the ability to use a Dedicated/Discrete GPU, or even eGPU, that it is BEST to use them instead of the built-in Intel GPU. In High Sierra, one MAY use NVIDIA Maxwell or Pascal GPUs. In Mojave or newer, it is BEST to use an AMD/ATI GPU.

I have an AMD/ATI Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX-580 8GB GPU, (Flashed from MacVidCards), and am on Mojave 10.14.6. The AMD/ATI GPUs get their Drivers from MacOS/Apple. In High Sierra, (known already by most of us), NVIDIA Web Drivers are REQUIRED to be installed to properly use Maxwell or Pascal GPUs.

Maxwell: GTX-750TI SC, 8x0, 9x0 Cards

Pascal: GTX-10x0 Cards

NOTE: GTX-16x0 and RTX-20x0 and 30x0 Cards are Turing Cards AND DO NOT function in ANY MacOS.

[EDIT 2:]

Another Note: To get Boot Screen on a Dedicated/Discrete GPU; the GPU in question MUST be Flashed, (preferably by a professional), to include the Mac EFI on the GPU. Just popping in a Discrete GPU will NOT give you a Boot Screen - and in that event, video will first come up at the Login Screen.

For a fee, MacVidCards WILL Flash an off-the-shelf Discrete GPU, (that is Mac Compatible), for around $150. Some computer stores, (NOT Best Buy), CAN Flash a GPU, find a store you trust, have done business with, because IF Flashed improperly, the GPU becomes a brick.

E-Bay sells USED Flashed Mac GPUs; NVIDIA Kepler Models, and AMD/ATI GPUs for use in Mojave and Catalina. AND, Maxwell and Pascal Cards for High Sierra. (Kepler Cards DO NOT require NVIDIA Web Drivers and remain “Native” to MacOS, thus still function in Mojave and Catalina.)
