Workaround for the trolls bringing down arcade

When you open starcraft 2, select CAMPAIGN, then go to custom, host your map, then post in arcade / general chat your lobby link.

I think the best “workaround” is to stay away from SC2 until the problem is fixed. We have no idea how deep their attack goes. Is it only arcade being crashed due to long loading times or maybe their uploading some trash onto your computer.

Don’t touch SC2 for now.

Unless theyve physically invaded Blizzard offices, this is unlikely.

Nah, no need. Its been completely relegated to player made map names. The rest of the game works fine and has the whole time.

Not sure if you understand the problem. Just by downloading these maps you can potentially download some malicious software - that’s what i meant. You sure the game is safe ? If so, go play SC2.

I fully have been. They would need to actually have Blizzard modify the game in some way to get it to download malware just from opening the game.

No, not the game. Game client changes only when it is patched. But what about the maps ? Do you know how the map is stored ? It is some sort of compressed archive which may contain some malicious code (like script for example) which can be executed the moment when you download/open it. Of course such probablity is very low but still exists. They did it week ago, now they did it again. And they won’t stop until vulnerability is removed.

It’s up to you. I’d better be safe than sorry.

I have been… the entire time this has been going on, I didn’t stop at any point when this map loading exploit started. As long as the “custom” tab (which defaults to the “lobbies” subtab) isnt’ selected, there’s been no freezes, no crashes, no other aberrant behavior. Monitoring the network, there’s been no redirects, no unauthorized downloads or uploads, nothing.

I think you don’t either. All anyone knows is that something is causing the game to freeze/crash while loading maps in the “lobbies” tab. Hence something is up with player made maps. What exactly? Don’t act like you know. There’s been nothing to PROVE anything else. There’s also been nothing to PROVE that anywhere else in the game is affected. It’s fine if you want to stay away from the game, but fearmongering outside of what is explicitly known is irresponsible.

You are literally as ignorant as this guy WKnight2. He also argued that game is 100% safe because “custom tab no longer crashes” LMAO. It’s not about crash, it’s about vulnerability that still exists. I don’t care if rest of the game is safe or not. Blizzard is multi million dollar company. It’s their duty to patch the game and ensure our online safety. Assumption is mother of all failures.

Neither do you. None of us really knows what is actually going on so stop pretening it’s all cool and safe.

Just go play SC2 but don’t tell other people to do the same.

Putting it bluntly, computers dont work like that. They cant just magically infect your computer or steal your data through Starcraft.

Ironic you would say that. I watched that exchange, which you were deleted just as much as he was, between you two and youre just as deluded as he was, just in the opposite direction. Why ironic? Because I NEVER said the game is 100% safe, i NEVER said the custom tab isn’t causing crashes. THAT’s what is truly and sadly “LMOA”: your mental gymnastics. I literally said exactly what causes the issue and thus how to avoid it in my post. But you just couldn’t stop yourself from ignoring that just so you could twist my words into something that can plainly seen is false… and for what? Because you were cornered with a counter argument. LMAO indeed.

And assumptions is all you’ve been fearmongering.

I NEVER said I did.

I NEVER pretended it was.

Man, the more I read of your reply, the more you exemplified my point about ignoring what’s written on the page and replacing it with anything you could conjure up… and all because you were facing some critical thinking. Have some tact or grace or modesty for god’s sake.

Bro, are you still here ? Why are you not playing SC2 ? I thought you already launched the game and enjoyed it ? Safety is more important for me than some stupid dying video game. If you cannot comprehend this simple statement further discussion with you is pointless.

Everyone has their own choice - i choose to be safe, you choose to play SC2. Everyone’s happy

This is like saying you shouldnt read about sick people because you might catch their colds or whatever they have. Its only being safe if you understand what youre doing.

Guys please leave me alone. I told you what to do. But don’t tell me what i should do.

“Do as I say, not as I do.”

Yeah, sure. Youre lying to people, don’t expect people to just watch.

Just what is your problem ? What do you want to accomplish ? Did i forbid you to play SC2 ? You insist i am wrong so there is nothing left for you than just launch the game and enjoy it.

Interesting first question. Did I say I was playing SC2 right now? Let me look back at my words… after all you have a propensity to make stuff up.

Nope, never said it. Looks like another one of your fabrications in response to being cornered. Your 2nd question, because there’s not a PC that has it installed nearby.

Hmm. So you’re saying that because I haven’t had an issue with any other game mode, that you think I should be playing it right now? What in the even…???

I NEVER the contrary. Again, true to form. The only pointless thing going on here is your ignoring what’s written right on the page and replacing it with your mental gymnastics. If you can just stop yourself from doing that, real conversation would be taking place.

Except youre taking it further that that. You aren’t just choosing to not play and that’s it, your adding your forum fearmongering campaign on top of it.

I think we’ve both pointed it out, several times with me.

No, but that’s never been our point. True to form… AGAIN.

There is no such thing as “fearmongering campaign”. It exists only in your imagination. I was giving people good advice. It’s up to you if you take it or ignore it. Game has been attacked twice (TWICE) in just one week, yet some people act as if nothing happened. I am not an authority to ban people or shutdown SC2 servers. I am waiting for appropriate response such as patch which will remove vulnerability.

Honestly, why are you so obsessed with replying to this. If it wasn’t a problem for you, you’d quit this conversation long time ago. Yet you’re giving countless replies because you want to save face or something ? Are you afraid that because of my few comments SC2 population will drop down to zero and people will stop playing it ?

You were lying to people. And are continuing to lie to people.
