What if: Raynor’s another prestige (Field Commando)

I would like to have this prestige, to make Hyperion permanent. Hyperion can also play the role of a transport, load his units to himself and drop pods to any specified point(cooldown 60 seconds), thanks to this, units will receive an synergy bonus attack and movement mastery. As disadvantages, remove the charges of Point Defense Drone and make a cooldown of 60 seconds, remove the yamato and increase the cooldown of Banshee Airstrike by 2 times.

I definitely would love Raynor as a Hero unit for his P2, as I mentioned before in some other topic. Raynor as a Vulture hero would be so fitting for Rough Rider by virtue of its name alone, and a very fun throwback to the original SC, where Vulture was like his most common form for playable.

They could even adapt mechanics from that first NCO mission, and have Raynor piloting a Vulture and wielding his gauss rifle in one hand, blasting enemies and having spells inspired by the abilities he wielded in SC2 missions and Heroes of the Storm, something the devs already borrow ideas from.

While his autoattack is a marine gauss rifle, his Penetrator Round can be fired from his Vulture’s gun hardpoints. The topic-creator suggested Super Stim can instead be his signature Adrenaline Rush stim power from Heroes of the Storm, and can passively gain CDR from killing enemies. The Chrono Rift device instead could be aesthetically some form of Spider Mine-esque Caltrops, slowing enemies while looking more visually consistent with Vulture bikes (thus, giving Raynor a specific use of the iconic spider mines without making his standard issue Vulture units redundant).

There are basically an infinite number of neat and fun ways to implement a Raynor field hero unit, but I strongly feel like a Vulture hero is the best way to go about it, being both fitting to his lore, and in terms of gameplay. We don’t have a heroic Vulture hero yet, but we already have a heroic Marine in the form of Tychus

Why not instead of P1?

Because P2 is basically well-suited for replacing. Rough Rider is literally a perfect name for a Vulture-hero Raynor prestige already. As well, I’ve honestly felt that a nerfed Afterburners stim should have been baseline in Raynor’s kit to begin with, and think it’s rather a waste to use a Prestige exclusively just to get that functionality.

I’d much rather get the nerfed Afterburners stim baseline, and then free up P2 for a Hero-centric prestige. P1 is already a novel Prestige that changes the Raynor playstyle significantly, that me and other people love to use. Double health bio forces is a super cool thing to play with, and it would be a waste to toss it out when weighed against P2.

Video demo is done. Any constructive feedbacks will be appreciated.

The abilites make no sense for Raynor commander. He is a rebel commander, someone who inspirers, not Rambo.

Give him some abilities that helps his army, like an aura that increases Biological units armor, or a temporal buff to mechanical units, or something along those lines.

Raynor already does support with enemy dampen as well as improved vision. And I wanted to make it consistent with already existing ability in the Campaign.

Rather than disabling his Hyperion entirely, I would rather it function more like Tychus’ Odin where Raynor will be absent on the field while Hyperion is summoned.
Disable Banshees in return but Raynor as a hero unit gain 2 Dusk Wing escorts like Symbiote.
Also Raynor needs a skill called Liberation Day that allows him to shoot down the Mengsk hologram on Imperial Witnesses.

That would be nice. A long time ago I suggested that every CO have a deployment class to add more build diversity. Here was Raynor as an example:

Class A: Army Control - Command your army (Default Raynor)

Class B: Leader Control - Command your army with a hero present (Raynor is present on the field, with some minor limitations.)

Class C: Squad Control - Command your leader with an elite escort (Raynor is present with fewer but elite units.)

If this were a thing, other commanders would already be on different settings by default like Alarak being Class B by default, or Tychus being Class C. This could also move and make room for more prestige loadouts for each CO as well Like Zegara P3 having more prestige options based on that build alone.

I’m still curious how people will go about, Abathur (he has Demi heroes so some skip him) who has no in model anywhere. Karax, whose only known abilities are fairly weak (summon cannon, mobile powerfield, reclamation, and a passive chrono field to speed up production), Han and Horner, because there are 2 of them. And Mengks for similar reasons to Abathur, (no model).

Since raynor has an abundance of healing, he really doesn’t need super stim, beyond that his lvl 1 includes improvements to basic stim packs, giving Jimmy normal stim packs, that also triggers allied infantry stim makes more sense.

While that was a cool demonstration, the Chrono Rift seems a bit too spammable. If a Raynor hero is going to more than one Spell, he should have Energy like the other heroes and make it a conscious choice on which energy-costing abilities to use and when to do so. Make it a choice between whether Crowd Control or a Linear AoE skillshot would be of greater use for a situation.

Also, f you are going to give him a Stim ability, at least make it his personal, unique one from Heroes of the Storm, Adrenaline Rush, perhaps with some unique functionality inspired from that Moba from one of his Talents. That Super Stim looks seriously out of place on Raynor.

For Abathur he himself doesn’t have to be present, he could just deploy a symbiote that enhances the unit greatly kinda like what he does in HoTS. H&H would be similar in that regard, just deploy something in their stead. Karax they could tweak to the their liking to make him better in co-op, Stettman especially could definitely benefit from that.

I intended to use this for other concept but whatever.

Let Jim use abilities with charges instead of cooldown and energy.

Charge doesn’t recover but you can spend mineral and gas to buy additional charges at engineering bay.

Since most of Jim’s abilities are tools and equipment, it feels more believable that he carry them with him and use on the way and they don’t recover but need you to buy it.

That is a good idea!

As usual Jim is following the trend that hero’s are weak to air comps, being that penetrating round was used on a map without air units it probably doesn’t hit them, and the other abilities marine Jim could have, without new ones being added, would be grenade, plasma gun, and chrono rift. Chronorift should effect air units, and slow their mov and atk, grenade is iffy if it hits air, and plasma gun should be Able to hit both, IIRC. If you go with purchasing ability charges at E-bay would you go full WC3 shops and Jim has to be nearby, or is it globally restocked. Speaking of abilities, the other abilities a heroic Jim has had, are stim pack, spider mine, and Yamato, from the respective unit he’s the heroic version of. From Heroes his abilities are more or less penetrating round, area stim, and self healing. With his heroic abilities being summoning in the Hyperion or 1 to 2 banshees (old version summoned 2, new has 1 permanent). Also the passive radar, which is easy to forget in belly of the beast. Honestly I don’t like penetrator round, because it’s wind down leaves Jim in bad spots fairly often. I don’t know why but I love the idea that Jim has a pet banshee the hero would periodically summon, an interesting mechanic? Would be for Jim’s kills to inspire units to join his cause for free, say For every 20 supplied killed, a random one of Jim’s units would be created for free near his hero. Just some random numbers 30% chance for 8 marines, 20% for 2 medics 1 firebat and 1 Marauder. 20% chance for a siege tank and 2 vultures, 20% chance for 1 Viking 1 banshee, 10% for a BC. While randomness is frustrating it sounds cool, couple this mechanic with a decent unit markup and Jim’s role switches to inspiring combat, and acting as a rally point to summon. This is also a mix of The final segment of Liberation day, and First half of Gates of hell.

I am taking note from Cerebrate to enable Chrono Lift to be purchased to stop spamming.

Maybe a stim to increase his attack speed and Penetrator round cooldowns to 100%?

But his radar which provides extra vision and range coupled with Mass vikings should hard counter any air units. Alone his air attacks are weak but synergy with Marines and Vikings more than compensate.
I don’t know about pets and drop offs but sounds like that heroic ability should be reserved to Warfield (if he comes around)

Nice show casing.

Stim and Penetrating Rounds are both good. Chrono rift device is fun but no. Please replace with an aoe buff. Either increase attack or attack range. Or have something like a point defense drone to intercept in coming fire since we are losing Hyperion.

Raynor is rebel leader who inspires others so an AOE buff is more appropriate.

Actually Raynor have Radar passive that gives +2 vision/range aura.
The firebats’ flame throwers were insane.

Ok I see that now good.

Still do not agree with the Chrono device.
