What does Artanis need?

You mean force field? Sentry “medics” are only co-op.

But there are sentries class units, like havocs, energizers and conservators, all support units.

A healing unit would be nice, but outside of that Artanis has everything he needs to effectively do everything. He’s just not a very flashy commander (hence everyone and their mom asking for a hero unit, despite the fact that I don’t think every commander needs that).

No unit has ever been added to any commander though, so that wouldn’t be a possibility. Opening that can of worms would be catastrophic for people. Gonna get all sorts of requests and flaming topics about how x deserves y unit lol.

Funny idea: considering that Artanis lead the Protoss alliance Aiur/Nerazim/Tal’darim/Purifiers, give him a skill like the “Unleash the Zerg” of Mengsk, but instead it summons various units from random protoss factions from the campaign that go break stuff on their own.

Artanis himself could be that unit, his hero has a healing ability. Maybe we’ll see him in the future.

Well said.

No reason to charge Dragoon for extra price if the prestige didn’t offer a single benefit to it.

I think Artanis is fine as he is, but I’d like to entertain the idea of adding Sentries for a bit.

If the devs were to add Sentries to Artanis, I think they could be made different enough from the other variants if they hybridized the campaign and versus variants. Here’s what they could get:

  • Double Shield Recharge, at a rate slightly slower than Zeratul’s Shieldguards. This would also make sense given Artanis’ larger army
  • Guardian Shield, which would be more useful vs hitscan attacks than the Shieldguard’s Reflection Shield, but less useful vs projectiles
  • Hallucination, which would be the Sentry’s unique feature. I’m not sure why this ability’s absent from co-op, though I’d have to assume it’s for a non-trivial reason

No Force Field since that’d step on Alarak’s Havoc.

I’m not sure whether it should get an attack or not, but I’d imagine its vitality would be 40/40 and cost would be 50/100 with 1 supply, which would be enough to meaningfully separate the Sentry from its variants combined with the above. Each of these abilities could gel nicely with Artanis’ P1, to boot.

Would Blizzard ever do it? Probably not, since Artanis doesn’t really need it and the change could have big implications for him. I’m sure they’d rather save the unit for a new commander, though I don’t think they’d add the baseline Sentry given how… plain it is now.

This is Artanis’ wet dream. Literally nothing else would make him happier.

Sure, but I personally am tired of people just trying to ask for a hero unit for ones that don’t have one. I’m really not sure what the issue is with more traditional RTS commanders.

There is no issue. This is coop, it suppose to be fun and you can have fun with a Hero Artanis or without it. It’s a discussion.

You already can restore shields with storm, for protos robots? it is equivalent to biological healing.

Yeah this a good point but I hardly use it. My build is dragoons / zealots deathball. My dragoons usually able to survive easily while my zealots a mineral dump. I just let them die … I’m horrible I know …

Medics heal Mechanical units so immersion is already broken super hard that we can ignore it.

I don’t really care for Artanis or Raynor to be added, but that seems to be a popular thing to talk about here.

Yeah, teching up to a tier 3 unit just to heal your stuff seems kinda ridiculous…

Karax intensifies

I don’t feel like Artanis needs anything in particular. He’s got his whirly zealots as a front-line mineral dump, and cannons for basic home defense. He’s got goons for the backbone of his army and immortals for heavy firepower. He’s got tempests to focus down objectives and hybrid, phoenixes for light anti-air, reavers and templar for splash damage, and archons when the templar run out of juice.

It’s a pretty well-rounded and versatile army, and his top bar is also solid. There isn’t anything missing. He just lacks a little oomph.

If I were tweaking Artanis to suit my own preferences, I’d turn the dial more toward offense: Modestly improve his units’ damage output, reduce their health and shields to balance it. But Artanis isn’t designed for me; he’s aimed at players who like more of a safety buffer, and that’s okay. I have 15 other commanders to play with.

I think about Artanis is I rarely feel powerful or strong with him.

But I rarely feel overwhelmed even if I’m making bad plays.

Maybe I just need to accept him as a high floor, low ceiling commander.

Just add Arbiter, most of his problem is solved.
And nexus legate would become redundant and I’m fine with it

Arbiters and Sentries are definitely nice, and they synergize well with the energy mastery.
Although they may scale weirdly with P1, imagine Sentry healing twice as fast than a regular Medic, or Arbiter’s Stasis lasting an eternity.

A great teammate…

Um, y’all read the news about no more content just balances, right?
