They both went bio tank, stop kidding yourself. I made a list of all the mistakes they made that I could see from the one perspective. These guys weren’t great at all compared to current players. Here are mistakes current level gold players wouldn’t make:
3:25 makes 2 gases and doesn’t use gas for another 5 mins
5-6 mins floating hundreds of gas
8 mins, still floating gas, this could have been a new base
9:40 doesnt pull his workers and loses a bunch to blue flame hellions, that he scouted
9:53 forgets to que up workers while microing
11:30 forgets to que up workers while microing
12:20 pulls all his workers at his nat to defend something he had enough army to defend
14:20 his opponent runs marines into a 4 tank seige line that HE ALREADY SCANNED and knew about, losing them all
15:26 doesnt pull his workers at his third and loses them all
17:36 his opponent scans then runs a small MM army into siege tanks at 3rd
19:15 his opponent drops in a poor position in the main and kills nothing, loses everything
23:28 he doesnt pull workers at his 3rd again, he could have saved them all
24:37 he unseiges even though he knows the army is going north into his siege line
24:45 his opponent doesnt pull them back and loses everything for 2 tanks

Comparing WoL top players then and now : They had it harder, multi prong attacks which I still cant do as well as they did, without my macro suffering, was the only way to play, there were no widow mines, liberators, tempests, lurkers, swarmhosts where you can just hit an run.
Go beat Jaedong then… to me these players that have been tops at SC1 Broodwar then participated in SC2 already reaching playoffs and semis, are miles away from me even now because they have the routine of how Starcraft should be played, decisions, macro that I dont do without being a top player and neither does anyone else that was not a pro player

That was the point of my previous post, to show liars like you that never played back then, that people weren’t that good, and the game wasn’t figured out yet. There were no multipronged attacks or splits, they didn’t even focus fire a tank in the whole game. And on top of it all, their macro slipped constantly. These guys would be lucky to make it to plat 1 with this play in 2022.

The peak performance of GSL would beat platinum players in a tournament setting, turns out peak performance is a lot different than average performance, especially in a period of high competitiveness, unlike today.

I don’t think I called them diamond/masters ever in this thread. You must be thinking of someone else. I did call them both plat and gold league though, and I stand by that. Diamond and masters players are top 20-5% of players, so I think that would be giving these GSL pros too much credit with the abysmal play they showed. They sucked at the game (but to their credit, the game was very new).
I think the main issue with Protoss balance is that players can get so far without even a rudimentary understanding, so they think they actually did it by being “good.”

Im judging by the games of Nestea vs Mvp, Mvp vs MMA and alike, it was WoL and it taught us to mass drop from multi places, not that this was not known from other games. I had an online friend who went beyond me and reached Master before me and was playing the same as what he saw from those games.
From the year 2011 I can say you would not be able to win vs any of the mentioned pro players, who had made thousands of games way before you. Heck even I had close to 1K by mid 2011.
What a delusional platinum, even in the MLG game I can see worse play than today’s pro players but nah plats dont do even that now, Ive played some on and off past years. I remember the APM, it was again 200+, Plats do not play like that.

The main difference is that plats can only do one thing at a time. Their stragtegy is either all in or turtle to 200. I mean in the 2011 MLG game, both terrans were harassing each other, managing economy and scouting. Blue had like 30 SPM while DankTemplar has like 4 SPM in his games. In a typical plat game today, players just stay at their base and build units and even then they get supply blocked and bank a lot of resources. Also, the pros back then were already very crisp and precise with their mouse movements.
And banking 800 gas back then wasn’t bad because the economies were different. The games back then weren’t like today where you can get 3 to 4 bases and 6-8 gasses when you need it. Banking gas was good for when you needed it. And gee on noes he pulled too many workers. How dare he not have perfect map vision?
I honeslty don’t see how someone can watch DankTemplar’s replay and the MLG replay and go away thinking that a plat could have won GSL.
