Publishing not enabled

I dont know much detail. I got that info from reading reports by legit map makers responding to angry players that the illicit content isn’t something purely from within the map code. Hence, there wasn’t anything for the map makers to fix.

I don’t know unfortunately. I don’t know what they have done behind the scenes to mitigate it in the short term while working on a long term fix.

Do you have any news on when legit custom mode publishers can update their maps again? Maybe only allow publishers that already have maps for updating as a temp fix? Completely blocking everyone is making loads of people leave which is a shame and unfair to honest map editors.

Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately no. All I am able to do is pass things on to Bliz. After that I’m out of the loop.

Sometimes Bliz tell me after the fix is implemented just so I can pass that back to the community. But there’s literally nothing in between which involves me.

Us dedicated map makers and players stand by just to wait for some positive information that will give us a reason to keep going. I hope something happens that helps us save the game in the horrific state that it is in. Godspeed all.

It’s free to play but it’s not free to publish. They can’t upload unless they bought another account. Free accounts get an error when they try to upload.

Yes, this. At least allow people to update what is already there and just temporarily disable new files from being uploaded until the fix.

Will all official Blizzard patch and bug announcements be on Reddit now? Surprising to see not much post from them here.

I can’t believe how long we are waiting. I remember when StarCraft was deeply cared about. Apparently that left with half the older employees. Sad times my friends.

The Arcade should never die, it’s a great idea and I hoped for more attention than it receives now. This will have a terrible impact on it for sure.

Some of us have worked on maps for several years so it is just a major let down.

Not all. Bliz sometimes does post on the forums.

That said, for quite a long time now, Bliz has been posting about many issue only on other social media. I don’t know why, I think it’s asinine, but it’s what they do for whatever reason.

That was largely due to active development. Unfortunately, active development ended over four years ago. As part of that, the dedicated team was eliminated.

Now, when SC2 has issues, personnel have to be pulled from the other franchises to deal with it. Trouble is, those people have their own priorities that will often trump anything in a retired game. Hence why every major problem that SC2 has had in the last 4.5 years has taken so long to fix. Some issues (like the recurring coop commander level locking) may never be fixed.

As an active Blizzard Entertainment game player and supporter since 1998, I completely agree with everything you are saying. But, as I have purchased and played all their games (even Blackthorne), I firmly believe that StarCraft, should never be out of active development. It will always be seen in my eyes as one of the THREE, main and important game franchises that help shape and lead the way for Blizzard Entertainment itself to become the success it is today.

StarCraft 2 should be active up until the point of StarCraft 3 and/or a SC MMO…
Not OverWatch or Hearthstone. (Sorry, I don’t mean to bash these good games)
The THREE will forever be: WarCraft, StarCraft and Diablo.

I don’t think of any RTS gaming at all without War3 or SC at the top of my list. Embrace this concept and be proud of what you created!

Me neither! When Bliz announced it, I didn’t even believe it for a few minutes. But alas, it was true.

Just as an aside, MVPs aren’t employees, so I had no hand in creating anything at Bliz!

It’s hard for players to want to invest into a game when they know the game’s company will just drop it the moment the bulk of the sales are completed.

The community of developers are the only thing keeping sc2 arcade and sc2 alive, and Blizzard is preventing us from keeping it alive. Again, just disable new uploads for now but at least allow updates for files that are already uploaded.

It’s eventual the fate of all video games. Eventually they are abandoned for newer, modern projects. Thus all gamers are going experience what you describe at some point, not with just SC2.

That’s a bit hyperbolic. First, as far as anyone knows, it’s not being decommissioned. The developing community will be back to ‘keeping it alive’. Second, the arcade is not solely keeping SC2 alive.

2 weeks later and still no official update on estimations or even a solution to the problem.

Bliz isn’t in the habit of giving ETAs anymore. They’ve been burned too many times by people who don’t distinguish “estimate” from “promise”. And in the event Bliz doesn’t meet their estimate, there’s an insurrection.

As for updates, they also are not in the habit of popping in to repeat the same “still doing what we said we were doing” over and over.

I’ll ask if they are willing to say anything on it, but no promises.

If you can that would be great, I’ve got a weeks of updates for my map and I bet many other map makers are in the same situation.

4 days Later, just checking things out with optimism. Unfortunately, let down. Just because the game has been declared “Free to play” doesn’t mean you can put it on a backburner. What about the people that bought all your items in the SC2 shop? Skins, Announcer voices, and UI skins? People spend hundreds of dollars because you changed your business model but now don’t give any support, so they lose right?

Kind of strange how SC2 is free, while SC1 is 14.99 too. Making it free just allows people to smurf, and allow people to make throw away accounts to promote dark web videos. Easy way to devalue the game in my opinion.

SC1 is free to play. The $15 is only required for the new graphics, ranked matchmaking, and some other minor stuff. But you can do custom games for free. And once you pay your $15 you can make multiple accounts on the ladder.

Guilting an entity that lacks a conscience isn’t going to work man. Find something else to do in the meanwhile. All they had to do was turn off new uploads (still allowing people to patch what has already been uploaded), and ban the offending account, giving them all the years they needed just to make the change to prevent maps from adding video file types to a map/mod. Instead they just turned the whole thing off then forgot about it.

They dont understand: You forget about your players, your players will forget about you.
