Now that WoW classic is a success

wings of liberty was better in terms of void rays which worked like they do in co-op.

This OpenCog guy is textbook sociopath. :no_mouth: If he’s not Avilo, he really is a lot like him.

Out of curiosity what are the “design rules” That are violated. There is no “just add water” RTS formula.

Yeah the old Void Ray was much more interesting. It was designed to be great in sustained combat, and there were interesting micto tricks you could do like attacking your own unit to keep it charged. Now it’s just an activate ability and attack.

Those cases are not comparable.

WoW was completely reworked over its many expansions. Classic and the current BFA expansions are essentially different games with completely different character classes and an emphases. BFA focuses mainly on acquiring gear through quick, repetitive content. Classic focuses mainly on exploring, character building, quests, and long PVP battles or dungeons and raids.

StarCraft II is still very similar to how it was in WOL and HOTS, except that more tactics/strategies are viable.

LOTV did a complete 180 on this game. Less minerals, more workers, faster expanding, and tons of new units each expansion. The game does not even remotely come close to playing the same. Going from 6-12 workers was definitely a redesign of how this game was played.

God no… LoTV pretty much improved SC2 in every way. HoTS is the reason the game almost died. The game can always be tweaked and improved, but going backwards is not the answer. This isn’t a theme-park MMO and making the comparison just makes you look like you have no idea what you’re talking about

I would rather them just make a Starcraft3 or Starcraft2 definitive edition. Imagine each unit looking exactly like their high quality art.

Only the masochists of the Starcraft community would cheer on content being stolen back as such. Arrogant, spiteful slimeball types deriving some sort of authoritative pleasure from rubbing it into eachother’s noses that Blizzard is not going to return their preferred ladder modes.

“nO oNe WoUlD pLaY iT sInCe LoTV iS fReE nOw” - Guess we can’t know because the choice was never offered, rather the game many paid for and wanted to continue playing was forcibly removed in favor of a game that many did not pay for because they did not want it.

“iT wOuLd SpLiT tHe LaDdEr AnD mAkE sEaRcHeS lAsT tOo LoNg” - I suppose now you’re admitting that indeed people would prefer the other games to the current iteration. Can’t have it both ways.

Meanwhile, Archon mode is still a thing.

The people playing WOL and HOTS didnt assimilate into LOTV, they were playing other modes because it was there preferred iteration. Most of the people who were playing old iterations just quit. It’s literally retarded that people think it would fracture the playerbase. It’s just as retarded that people wouldnt be for a move that would increase the playerbase. But oh well, now we can rub it in those old players faces that they will never have their old games back!

And 0 people play it and most don’t know it exists.

Why does blizzard mess up their games? Why? Answer us please devs. Just give us the answer!!!

That’s probably because it is so limited. You are forced into a regular 1v1 with 2 players.

Brood War’s team melee allowed more than 2 teams, and it allowed players to mix factions. Each faction also had its own separate supply (which increased the amount of stuff you could do), and the game-mode actively increased the supply cap for individual factions in some cases. It would be great if those kinds of options were available for regular custom games.

@MyOhMind: don’t be a coward to delete your post about “my dead wife” and old ladders, at least be polite, think two times before posting instead of just offend people. And don’t worry, I printed that post, because was just laughable and cringy.

Added there  .

Yes, was a dick move too, is sad to see players losing the memories of old games or people downloading pirated old versions of this game to just watch replays :frowning: .

Yes, they can be played with current version. They need only a matchmaking system.

Basically this, this can apply well in SC2 too. There were people in WoL/HotS ladder just because of changes of LotV, even these that owned and played LotV. And you are right, this mentality of “adapt or quit” is killing the game and is a product of toxicity of some members of playerbase.

Ok, I will list some design problems that were made in LotV and caused lots of problems:

Carrier Interceptor, a tanky unit, with total 80 HP, flying, no supply, good dps when massed costing only 5 minerals. It caused so much problems that they increased mineral cost and redesigned the Carrier.

Tempests, a unit with a high damage, long range, high speed , good HP, low costs for a air unit and good for deathballs, specially comboed with HTs. No wonder why this unit is problematic nowadays and they nerfed they speed. Previous planned design of this unit was atrocious, who remember Desintegration and Disruption Blast, one that caused 550 damage to a single unit without chance of saving it or the other that created a high dps area of effect, all these with long range of casting and costing no energy!

Hydralisks that had 7 range, high speed and high DPS, they nerfed the range but gave them more HP and then decreased their DPS. In previous versions Hydralisks were comboed with Roaches to tank damage, nowadays people just make Hydralisks and a-move them.

Swarm Hosts, in early HotS they were a positional unit, were slow, needed to burrow to release the locusts and were a fighting unit. Now they are fast, cheap release the locusts without burrow and ignore positional play. With flying locusts they can destroy well positioned units even in high ground, CCs/Nexus/Hatcheries and bases separated by high ground or impassable ground. They were nerfed a bit because of this, but their design is atrociuos and worst, in last HotS patch they implemented some of these changes, breaking the ZvX. If blizzard someday bring back HotS, hope they revert this change and the whole patch 2.1.9 balance changes.

Reapers, a unit that jump hills, fast for a early game unit and massable, already strong, but they add grenades, turning this unit into a nightmare and worst it makes units fly by grenade knockback, making this game looks like a moba, instead of a RTS. The grenade was nerfed, no wonder why.

Battlecruisers, why they have teleport? why they don’t have energy anymore? in HotS they were strong, but they could be countered by feedback/EMP and after engaged they were in risk, they already had high armor and HP to support them and as a late game, they needed to be supported or well used. Nowadays they can be rushed and teleported into a opponent base early game. Late game they can Yamato you and teleport away and repair or in some cases teleport into your base while you are engaging your opponent on their base and they base trade you. Nowadays you need lots of Turrets inside of your base just in case of it.

Ravens, they were good units, the Terran late game, but they simply destroyed the unit. First they removed the HSM and PDD just to give two redundant and useless spells, the Interference Matrix and AAM. Interference Matrix is trash, it just disarms the enemy but don’t immobilize it, have low range, the projectile is slow and the range is low, so usually the Raven is dead when casting it, a 100/200 unit! and worst, its design is overlaping with other units, Ghosts are better anti spell casters, EMP and Snipe is far superior and safe and PDD was better to counter mechanical units projectiles and other biological units, Tempests are good versus Terrans nowadays because of it. Some Terrans will say that IM is good to destroy Tanks, but Liberators and HSM were/are much better to it. AAM is a terrible spell, it just decreases armor, while looking interesting, is good only for bio or using alongside with Auto-turrets, people who goes mech are least benefited and these are/were the people that just used Ravens and AAM have no damage, so Terran have no proper way to deal with massed air late game. HSM was good to punish people that don’t knew to split air units, nowadays BL/Infestor and Skytoss is returning because of it, in HotS these were solved by adding long range, low energy HSM, nowadays HSM don’t exist anymore.

Why did they remove WoL and HOTS? Because they thought all those players would come and join LOTV. They were wrong and had to make the game FTP.

As much as people lie that no one played them and wait times were long… during peak times, wait times for 4vs4 are almost comparable to what they are today. I wait just as long during off peak to find a game now as i did in WoL before they removed it…

1vs1 had no issues finding games.

They removed them most likely, because sc2 multiplayer went free to play and they didn’t want a convoluted mess of stuff. Do you get all 3 free even though 2 of them aren’t as active? Do you get WOL ladder with WOL but no one plays it? it was the simplest decision to just streamline the multiplayer. Though I do admit I miss going back and playing WOL multiplayer. Used to do it sometimes and it was nice and relaxing.
