It actually does though… .22 LR costs 1/20 of 1$ a shot while .50 BMG costs 5$ a shot.
That is 2 orders of magnitude difference. Even if you think it’s stupid to bring up .22 LR, do keep in mind that the military uses both 5.56(M249) and .50 BMG(M2 Browning) for their machine guns so there is also a difference by 1 order of magnitude there too.
Yes, because they are a full system involving a complex case which houses a primer, powder and a bullet.
A Coilgun should just be power + a simple projectile that can be 3D printed in mass. Of coarse if they are using gunpowder that is a different story… The real issue then isn’t why are they using projectile weapons but rather why are they using Gunpowder when they have fully effective Coilguns?
