Imagine if Starcraft 2 had economic upgrades such as “Workers collect +1 extra mineral per trip” or “Workers cost 1/2 supply” or “Unlocks new building: Automatic vespene gas harvesting plants” which would also help to reduce the amount of workers needed to collect resources in the late game and would make strong late game economies not as punishing due to the supply which gets wasted on workers.
I think adding an economic upgrades element to the game could be quite interesting, obviously it would take time to balance properly but I think it could be a new way to fix certain game design problems which are always trying to be fixed by nerfing or buffing certain units in the game by instead allowing players to play with more units in the late game adding more possible skirmishes all over the map.
This is something quite wild to propose but has not really been considered or looked at and I think it could be quite interesting.
