100% this. I am not sure what the answer is, but he is only working in some kind of comps where the entire team is ranged damage and they gun down enemies the minute they appear. Otherwise, he usually gets taken out resulting in losing what heals he has to his team (and traded healing for damage) taken out of the equation per fight.
His theme has a lot of potential; this Omnic who is “Enlightened” to the extent he has a life goal of unity. Tons of potential things could be done here. He comes from the original design philosophy, of rock-paper-scissors and simple but very scaleable kits (a very good kit mind you in terms of design). That being said, I’d like to see him get something new, just to bring the character into line with other kits these days. T
he problem is he’s like Tracer and Genji, running on a knife’s edge. Minor tweaks due the simplicity of the kit can quickly unbalance the character… and as a “classic design success” I think Blizzard is very, very reluctant to do much more than number tweaks. Let’s not forget not long ago JJonak made his MVP name with him… that carries a lot of weight towards keeping the design “as-is”.
We have kits now that have seven aspects to them - while some have four. I personally think no kit should have more than say 5 at most. Reinhardt was given a new passive… I am thinking if anything Zen might need a new passive “upgrade” to his kit, and introduce it with a Challenge event and new skin.
I am very open to ideas here… but perhaps a small say 5m healing radius AOE might be in order, or perhaps we shift 50 of his health to shield to allow it to regenerate, or possibly even he gains “self-repair” ie. full self-healing.
Actually being able to temporarily levitate upwards would not be bad, I would be down for that. His hit-box is only an issue at range, close in where most divers go I am not sure how much help it would really be…
zen was only meta 2 time in two game breaking metas , old dive that made supports and healing irrelevant so why not just take zen and have even better focus fire with disc what old dive was all about
and goat where again all you needed was more focus fire help with disc
zen was never meta in a healthy comp or meta , tbh whenever zen become “meta” you know the game is broken in 1 way or the other
welp maybe only 20 % of zen players ask for those
all the rest are about more damage that he doenst need or more survival abilities so he can apply the damage he has that is team doenst need anyway and would rather have a second real healer
as a supp healing should be one of his primary niche has of now all he has is damage , he is a dps its why he is a bad supp

Support doesn’t equal to heal bot. His niches is discord, which is incredibly power when use correctly.
Not really. A good zen can get his ult fast enough to keep team out of tight spot. Also if you’re doing to feed, no amount of god heal can save you. Once again, Zen is designed to be an OFF-heal. Healing is never his main job.
If anything Zen is one of the best designed character in the game. It’s the powercreep that’s killing him.
When they nerfed the discord in the first place they adjusted the damage so it would not negatively affect him. You did not lose damage as Zen when they nerfed discord (though you did gain it when they buffed it recently).
that doenst mean damage yes , but asking for survival abilities is just as useless because he doenst bring anything that you want or that is truly neccesary
zen could legit get moira fade people will still not want him because he survives for what ? to help his team do something that they can already do on their own ? they don’t care they want something that keeps them alive
sadly now it does , disc is great sure but its not useful , disc offer something that you don’t need , you can already kill throught pretty much any forms of heals currently with half decent focus fire
If focus fire was really hard to do and damage was really hard to apply ectect sure disc and current zen would have a reason to exist but its not
its like if you bring moira and bap during goat for more “heals” ? you already have enough healing you don’t need more and zen is the same there is already enough damage in the game you don’t need a character who helps with it more and in the process deprives you of something that there isnt enough of “healing”
a tight spot that they would potentially never be in if they had a real healer and good reliable healing
every healers job is healing and the main job of zen is a useless one again , as he does the job that already 4 people on your team does
