You're doing it backwards

Whenever there is a problem with the game, it is addressed on the backs of tanks and healers. DPS is seen as this immutable constant that is only significantly altered if the character is considered unviable (EG, Sym, Torb). But otherwise, balance is achieved by primarily altering tanks and supports. Shield reword, Mercy rework and subsequent balance changes, hook 2.0 then 3.0, approximately 10 trillion Sigma nerfs, Lucio rework, etc.

Every time you do that you lose players. As a result, fewer people play these roles. People don’t like to be jerked around. So what is the new plan? After already completely overhauling tank play, let’s jerk tanks around some more! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

Taking away the offtank role will just mean that off-tank players will either quit or switch to DPS. And you will again have a tank shortage. Amazing!

If you actually want to fix the role imbalance, start catering to tanks and healers. Quit destroying the play styles we like for the sake of DPS. STOP drastic reworks and nerfs of tanks and support and JUST FOR ONCE IN THE HISTORY OF THIS GAME address things by primarily changing DPS. Who knows, some tank players might actually come back…

My solution to this: if this becomes an actual thing past an experiment, I’m gonna uninstall the game and go back to TF2.

They have never, ever tried it my way. Not even remotely. All major reworks that are not huge buffs have been to tank and heal.

Yes they are shifting away from tanks and supports. Which means all the tank and support players will quit. Success?

Does playing victim ever get old? Why are people so sensitive to changes in this game?

To be fair, we have been getting the most positive feedback since launch once they stopped catering to tanks and supports… So yes. Success.

agreed, but theres a problem, a tiny buff for tanks makes them basically OP… just look what 2 seconds CD has done to D.va…shes fun to play, but im not gonna sit here and tell you shes not OP. Look at Rein, hes borderline broken now, while the rest are unusable. Zarya is ok i guess, rest useless

“Quit destroying playstyles.”
As if that were so many.
The fact that there are so few playstyles is the reason why they get gutted.
If Barriers are too strong dive comes back big times and viceversa.

Its like rock paper scissor but it lacks one of the 3 options.

We NEED more Tanks.

No they won’t. Stop lying.

And the DPS queues are getting longer and longer. After 1-2-3, it will be 1-1-4. Maybe eventually they can just go 0-0-6 and call the game Call of Overduty.

That would be pretty nice. Not going to lie. They just need to rework tank/support elements into the dps and we finally have ourselves a playable fps.

And all the players who pick Overwatch because they want a team-based, role-based shooter will quit. I for sure will if the off-tank role goes away. Success?

Cattering to tanks? When? They litteraly when goats become thing start working on every dps they could to make them kill tanks faster. And before that we had dive that was around dpsing as tanks…
So when exacly they catered to tanks?

You said it yourself, that is the direction we are heading. I have a feeling they are finally following the money, which is by definition, a success (for a business). There will still be tank like heroes such as Zarya and Hog, fam. It is not like they are going to delete them.

Hog is basic example of dps with a lot of hp…

Seeing how role-based play is the main differentiator for this game, I highly doubt that entering the already overcrowded field of generic shooters is a path to success. People who like CoD or Apex or Fortnite aren’t going to switch. But people like me might quit.

Seems like a bad trade…

Up until goats. Goats was when they changed their mind and realized their direction was ludicrous.

But goats were created just because they added brig, not because they catered to tanks?
It was meta made around her after all.

There were no significant tank buffs in the lead-up to GOATS.

ofc…

BECAUSE the majority of the player base is DPS so they will get more feedback from them…

How can you ignore a major fact like that?

Well, Brig was released as a hybrid and I think they catered to tanks AND supports. Not just one or the other. Basically, they needed tanks and supports to be OP to bribe people into playing them. With role lock, they finally balanced the game, and that meant nerfing tanks/supports and addressing power creep, which was largely coming from tanks and supports.

I warned the 222 crowd that this would happen. But they were delusional and thought dps were OP or their mains were being catered to in a 3-3 meta. That was always a recipe for disappointment.

I feel bad for them. Genuinely. But oh well, game is finally improving. Can’t complain about that.
