We always hear the exact same issues at all ranks. It’s clear that whatever system they have implemented to put teams together is flawed and broken. Their ideas are wrong, the way they calculate is wrong, but their intentions are good. The issue is they need someone else in the job role. Whoever is in charge now is creating a massively growing dissent for the game.
I always expected Blizzard to make quality games for players to want to get good at and play and not a game that caters to whoever will pay for skins, which is what it has mostly become. In the recent dev interview, the two devs seemed like they thought everything was fine, but let me tell you Blizzard, if you have this many people constantly complaining about the exact same thing you need to accept that your game is flawed and broken.
Feb 18 is the last straw. I’m putting the game down for good if I don’t feel like anything has changed with the MM, quality of games, penalties for leavers, better handling of players stuck in leaving/losing matches, hackers using whatever flavor is hot with alt accounts, and stacks of obvious boosters and smurfs plaguing lower ranks during events like comp drive. These things make your game more annoying and insulting than fun, and Blizzard hasn’t demonstrated to me over 10 seasons that they know what they are doing. I’ve got plenty of other games and diversions to allocate my time to. I have no sunk cost attraction and my time is valuable.

Their intemtions are not good as you say. They prioritize engagement and are trying to get people addicted the same way casinos do, there is nothing good about it, its actually really scummy.

the 5v5 system sucks and you’ll have less fun overall
Long live 6v6!

If this game wouldn’t be an utter trash in terms of balance, the smurfing would not be that necessary. But devs always please low ranks with the balance to sneak into their wallets selling more skins than they design gameplay. Smurfs are the opposing force to bad balancing. Make actual rewards for having high ranks, so these players have more incentive to stick on their main accounts, otherwise they will more likely to play as casual as low ranks and be there together. As long the game rewards low effort giving high value, the smurfing will exist naturally, and they can’t do anything about it. If Blizzard don’t pay for having a skill, then Boosting services will.
Back in 2016-2018 a Booster would do like $2-5k playing 8-12h a day. Nowadays, it is not that much but still, what would you choose between playing for nothing and playing for something.
Maintaining top500 = $500-1000 a season (They will lose this money in long term anyway, as the smurf keeps playing in low ranks, so they better share and make this game actually competitive)
The play times in the tests would suggest most people are quite happy playing 5v5 though. It wasn’t even close.
Matchmaking quality is bad. It’s always been bad and unfair. It’s obvious that there’s a queue created so you get easy wins and easy losses. It’s just how it is.

Something that doesn’t exist is obvious?
I get it, bad games suck. Majorly. But that isn’t match making.
You keep telling youself that.
I ain’t gonna try and convince you.

You couldn’t even if you tried.
It is impossible to prove the existence of something that doesn’t exist.
You are right to a point, but you’re pointing your displeasure at the wrong target. Yes, sometimes games are awful. Irritatingly bad. But “matchmaking” or even totally made up systems that have never existed aren’t the reason matches suck.
Ya I got GM in Marvel Rivals in 1-week solo queing this current season. I’ve been G2 in OW for 3 months now solo queing. This game is dead. To make ranked fair around gold-diamond solo queing the wait times would be at least 15-20 min

Marvel rivals is out and gold/plat que times are still at 2 minutes… With the player base dropping over 50% in a month… that is 100% a matchmaking issue lol

Player base hasn’t dropped 50% it was around 10-12%.
Steam isn’t indicative of the overall picture.
MR releasing and a player deciding it looks like a more fun game to play, isn’t match maker.
If they decided match making in OW sucked and left to play MR, good for them. They’ll be disappointed when they find it is pretty much the same system, with just as many if not more people crying about it. But what ever makes them happy.
Reading the replies, I think I should reiterate that it doesn’t matter how they are currently handling the game, it’s the fact that it’s creating a bad atmosphere for the game. Even if they are using a similar ranking system, whatever they are using, isn’t producing the desired results which is a happy base of players. That’s what they need to focus on, even if it means dumping the teams and reinventing how they do it.

How many accounts do you have now? Do they all just get forum banned so you start a new one or what?
Tbh MR matchmaking has been much better. I still occasionally get an obviously carried player, but it’s rare and games tend to feel competitive. I get relatively few absolute blowouts too. Im in celestial in MR, trying to climb to eternity, but in OW i had to start a new account to get to GM. This one that i had since OW1 I couldn’t even get out of plat. On this account i dealt with more throwers, digustingly bad teammates, and far more people on my team disconnecting than the newer one. Inb4 “you just haven’t played enough games yet on the new account”, i have almost 350 on the new account now and have a 50% win rate in GM4- have probably hit my level.
MR has some amount of performance based MM SR gains and losses, so even if you get a thrower on your team you’re still rewarded for playing well. Would go a long way to reducing toxicity in OW.

I have some accounts, none of which are banned on here that I am aware of.
Not sure what that has to do with anything that I said.
Going by just searching about what their system is… I am not sure the internet agrees. The seem to have all the same complaints. (the system is probably very very similar to OW)
Good. Not that that has anything to do with match making, but I am glad you are having close games.
confirmation bias going on there.
This is just a coincidence.
It wouldn’t. They would just move on to being toxic about something else. Toxic players will be toxic no matter what, as they are the root cause, not anything the game does.
Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller is the worst thing that has happened to the game. This man doesn’t understand how to make a shooter, this man doesn’t understand how to make ranked games, this man lost game player base because he did nothing to improve the quality of the game.

Just weird that you have accounts that have several thousand posts each that you will all of a sudden stop using. Wasn’t trying to discredit you with the statement, was just curious what the process is and what keeps you going lol.
Id agree on the confirmation bias if it weren’t for the fact that it’s a full 3 ranks above my other account. There’s no way a hardstuck plat should be able to be competitive in mid GM. I don’t think the system is actively working against me, it just doesn’t work well.
MR probably uses a similar system, but the inclusion of performance-based scoring makes trying even when you have a horrendous teammate worth it. The inclusion of a surrender button is also pretty nice tbh. I remember having a panther that was 0 and 15 after the first half during my climb - was nice to just be able to move onto the next game without the guy, getting less punishment than him because i didnt play poorly and knowing that he’s falling fast, as he should. Surrenders also allow you to end games where someone disconnects and doesn’t come back so you dont have to play another 10 minutes knowing you’re going to lose.
There’s a lot of simple fixes OW could put in (funny enough, they’re actually starting to add stuff for smurfing now) that would make the game better. Unfortunately, blizz waited so long to start implementing them that another game came along, made those features available from the start, and is now a serious threat to OW’s future profitability.
Ok. I will humour you this time, but I am not even remotely interested in that.
Have they actually confirmed this, or they still silent on it?
One thing OW has over MR is they’ve been pretty transparent with how it works. Whether people like the system or not is their own opinions but we know how it works.
Not sure what the first statement meant but ok.
You can see the difference in the points you gain/lose. Easy correlation tbh - every time i play poorly or get carried i gain fewer points or lose more points.
Does it explain what the differences are / any adjustments after the match?
(apologise I binned of MR after the first few days when I saw they hadn’t fixed the things that annoyed me during the alpha/beta phase).
