You'd have more fun if you didn't care about K/D

What could have been a fun teamfight, you decided to run away from. That nudge of damage or healing that could have made the difference. What seems impossible, you take the risk and is now an adrenaline rush.

But too often I see players leave the second the tank goes down, or even despite having still a low chance, giving up the objective in the process. Now you have to pray and hope that a teammate will follow up instead of bailing when an opening has been created. Those very rare instances when you get a quadra kill and the 5th takes you down only to see your last teammate is running back to spawn defeating the whole moment and losing the game.

I think you are clearly overgeneralizing here.

If your Tank is a YOLO Reinhardt player that charges in 1.2 seconds into a team fight and gets immediately picked, statistically speaking, that fight is likely done. OK, you might have a brave Mercy who might be able to pull off a risky res to even the odds, or one of your DPS could have a hero moment with an ultimate to even the odds. Regardless of either, chances are that such an attempt fails and that the next team fight is also done at a deficit. Staying alive keeps you generating ultimate charge, even if only passively, and a well-timed ultimate can win a team fight on its own. I know these seem like straw men arguments, as are so often made on these forums, but they are legitimately things I have seen this week of playing alone as well as plenty of times in the past.

Playing as a team is what increases “fun” for all. The Tracer harassing the backline can wait for a frontline engagement to push on the supports. The Tank can save that YOLO charge for an actual good moment to create space for their DPS. The supports can hold those key “save” abilities for the heat of a team fight moment. It is also ironic that playing as a team is a way to improve KDR, as well…

No, it really doesn’t make it anymore fun. I commit to a fight, lose as predicted, and walk back from spawn 13 times. Randomly spraying damage at enemies is not fun. Getting eliminations is.

If you want proof of this, go play Reaper. He’s been reduced to a Damage bot and a DPS spreader.

But if I go in and die uselessly my team will flame me, the enemy team will insult me, and I’ll be reported for throwing.
If I’m the only one that does it, I’ll also stagger myself and my team will be 4v5 for the next teamfight.

if everyone is full hp, realistically you are not going to win that fight unless you are killing someone who is isolated or you have some abilities/ultimates that can burst down or sustain the numbers disadvantage

I have the opposite issue where people are just not good at positioning themselves in most maps, and you can end up with teams where your entire group gets solo’d by a junkrat cuz they all stood in the same spot, or they are spread across the map in random places without good cover, extremely isolated and free picks for the enemy team

me whenever i play wrecking ball

as for the topic of the post: “You’d have more fun if you didn’t care about K/D”, yeah; thats just what being a “casual” means, you play the game for fun not just to win
