You guys are the most entitled, whiniest group of people i've ever met

People have been begging for years for a PVE Overwatch game and when we finally get one, half the fanbase starts crying about how its “money grubbing to have to pay $60 for DLC” despite there being absolutely no source on it being $60.

Not only have they finally given us a PVE Overwatch, they even gave us the ability to keep our gear and stats from OW1 AND let OW1 play with OW2 players. Imagine how bad it would be if we didn’t get to keep any of your cosmetics? How would you feel if you just bought the new Overwatch on switch and then you couldn’t even play the updated version announced less than a month after release? I know I’d be pretty annoyed if all my hard work was erased. I would have felt stolen from if I was a switch user, because if OW2 was locked to only OW2 players, OW1 would die out and I would have wasted my purchase.

Game, not DLC. And not that last Havana event we had.

ps just kidding, I never asked for pve in the first place lol

As somebody with a decent job, it weirds me out seeing people complaining loudly that $40 is too much for 50+ hours of entertainment.

I bought the original game for $40. An expansion pack should cost the same or less.

It’s a new game, not just an expansion pack. They’re just also giving the MP content to the players of the old game for continuity.

If they wrapped it up in a new package and blocked you out of multiplayer content unless you paid, would you be happier paying the money?

I bought the game for a good $60. People whining about $30 for almost a full story mode game confuses me.

Note: Overwatch 2 is gonna replace the original OW in the Battle net launcher when it comes out. It’s gonna be the exact same game. So OW2 is essentially gonna act like an expansion pack, not a new game.

That’s a good thing though, not a bad thing. It means players of the original game get new content with the option of even more new content. Rather than just dumping the original game in favor of “pay us for everything” like every other game sequel in existence. Simplifying it down to “expansion pack” doesn’t really give credit to what players are getting.

Maybe the issue is that they do not have a decent job? Pretty obvious.

I mean,by that logic,we should call every World of WarCraft,Final Fantasy XIV,etc expansion a new game cause they always add a lot more new content and even some QoL updates

The name is not logical, but whatever, it is what it is.

Those typically didn’t come with massive engine upgrades and the like.

What they’re going to be releasing is along the lines of what new games typically are. Substantial engine upgrades, completely new gameplay elements, new art, etc. In this case, we just get to keep everything we already have.

Imagine if every iteration of CoD worked this way. New game just given to you, and you pay for the story/arcade/extra stuff that wasn’t available in the previous games, but all your loot/xp/stats just go with you, and you never lose access to multiplayer.

Idk about you,but WoW for example looks much better than it did when it released. And I’ve seen people talk about outdated models getting updated in recent patches. So engine/art updates have definitely happened. I remember seeing news about how the system requirements were upped too.

As for gameplay features,FF14 is gonna add the “Trust” system i.e. NPCs joining you in dungeons instead of real people, into all the dungeons of previous expansions pre-Shadowbringers.

But these things don’t mean that WoW or FF14 are entirely new games now.

Edit: FF14 got some graphics updates too with the latest expansion.

Also, PvE is not a new feature. Events have presented it multiple times, the devs have just been thoroughly unwilling to let it stay.

It’s just an overhaul patch, similar to HotS’ 2.0 thing.

But those games didn’t receive fully independent, completely new gamemodes with separate content and balance (with included animations/sounds/etc). And again, those typically didn’t come with significant engine changes all at once, usually just one thing after another over a period of time.

Like, what would constitute a new game in your book? If they were to say “ohey, we’re done with OW1 now, buy OW2” and they just separated the label and made them completely independent of each other, would it be a new game then?

Except HotS didn’t require us to pay for new content ahah

Eh, everyone puts a different pricetag on what’s acceptable. Personally I definitely think I’ve got my money’s worth out of Overwatch.

But then again, if you consider how I spent many, many more hours in Minecraft, which was just 15 euros back in the day, SW:TOR, which you can play comfortably for free as long as you have subscribed once in your life (and don’t care about being competitive), and TF2, which is free to play, then I have to say that OW hasn’t given me the best deal yet.

That being said, I don’t think they should charge the same for OW2, at least not for those that have OW1, as it looks more like an xpac than a whole new game. I’d only be willing to pay 40 or 60 if it’s really chucked full of new content.

They did definitely receive new game modes. I know both WoW and FF14 had PvP modes added. I remember something about FF14 receiving new mini-games in the Casino sort of area.

There’s a huge PvP scene for WoW. So I wouldn’t call that not independent.

A new game to me,in this case, would be an entirely different and seperate game, built from the ground up. Examples: StarCraft 2 compared to SC1,Diablo 3 compared to D2,etc etc

I mean, what do you mean by “from the ground up” though. Starcraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm use the same engine, for example. Most of the tools already existed for Heroes of the Storm’s development, they just repurposed them for the sake of making a MOBA. Many Call of Duty games reuse content and use the same engine over and over again (not a bad thing, just pointing it out), maintaining the same gameplay and general feel from game to game. From what I understand, the whole point of this OW2 thing is that the single player/coop element could be packaged as a standalone game and still be fully featured enough to be a game. That it’s being packaged into the current OW experience is just smart tbh, and convenient.
