Remember the disastrous Sombra ARG? All of the hype that built up and people were disappointed. It was too much. I think dropping characters that nobody has heard of is fine?
Almost everybody. That’s why we get lore to begin with, otherwise all the characters could be different coloured cubes
They built it up a bit tew much and too long
But it was also incredibly fun in the moment looking for all the clues
Sanjay did a little bit more than just be mentioned, he played a pivotal role in Symmetra’s -only- story, and then made a cameo appearance in Talon, IIRC. Sanjay has more background than Echo.
If you hype stuff too much and get people too high on hype it can lead to disappointment. Hype is a problem in general. I get it is a typical marketing strategy for game companies and what not, but trying to hype stuff too much or too early leads to issues.
I don’t know if I’m the only one to say this, but I think the Junkerqueen is bland and I don’t like her character design. I don’t know what the obsession with Junkerqueen is and why it matters at all and how it impacts the quality of a new hero if a hero has established story in the game before release. I’m sorry but having established story has nothing to do with the quality of the hero… We should judge a hero based on their abilities and playstyle and their overall health for the game and not if they have a poster of them somewhere on a map or their name was dropped in a comic or short story.
SIGMA hype is real.

Imo I would rather the hero not be known since I think it’s more fun trying to figure out who the next hero is. I like being surprised and Sigma looks really interesting so far.
It seems like you are being biased. It’s YOUR opinion that hype is being lost because you have an affinity for lore. Not everyone who is playing Overwatch cares about lore. But at the end of the day, the most important thing that both sides can agree on is the hero’s playstyle, their abilities and how this hero can shape up the roster and what it can do for the game.
My point is that any time a name comes up people suddenly flock to it like it’ll be a new hero. Doomfist, Sanjay, Junkerqueen, Maximilian, Sojourn, Mauga, Antonio.
Sometimes characters are created just for backstory. You shouldn’t build hype that every new name is going to be a hero,
I mean it’s not like you could figure out who the new hero was going to be since we didn’t even know even by the slightest hint that such a hero existed and that’s my point
I believe they can make any hero fun to play (they can make the hero plays as they want) but making them an appealing character is not that easy.
I agree!
It is the forum, most people are bias here unfortunately. Not many hold a neutral stand point. Not that it should just be accepted when you got a bunch of bias. But not much you can do about it.
You say this and yet Ashe and Baptiste were basically DOA
It’s just a little extreme to say there is no hype surrounding new heroes when there evidently is… Everyone is talking about Sigma’s origin story. Quite frankly, I prefer heroes that I have never heard of. It’s a lot like when they leak all the event skins on their Twitter account and we all get bored. That’s what Junkerqueen and other “candidates” feel like to me.
The biggest part of my hype for Doomfist was because people were talking about Terry crews voicing him!
I’m actually more hyped about Sigma! I like his crazy personality
I just came here wondering why people where complaining about this really. I don’t even care for new characters since I only play as a select few anyways.
They could have put together the most awesome, thrilling and best, Route 66 ARG for Ashe and I still would have found Ashe boring on release.
Junker Queen should’ve come a long time ago, but nobody cares about Sanjay. I don’t get why anyone thought some generic fill-in would be a hero for the game.
