So I think I’ve found my hero. Something fun that I enjoy and is challenging to play, Hammond!
The game has been feeling really off recently. I could point fingers at a lot of stuff but I want to at least outline what I think is the issue.
-Poor team builds
-lack of content
-increasingly toxic games
-head scratching “balance” changes
I’m generally a flex player and I can easily play 90% of the hero rooster at Gold. Every season I tend to favor a single tank, dps, or support to up the % of games where we have a decent comp that works well (rather then 4 snipers,1 tank,1 support). By the end of every season this 3 picks take me to Plat/low Diamond.
I find it less and less often I can find a decent group that trys to make a decent comp, that isn’t toxic, and doesn’t over utilize heros that have been gutted.
I’m at an all time low playtime and have been having the least amount of fun. Saving grace has been Hammond. With the lack of tanks and my mechanix suffering from the lack of practice on lesser played hero’s (and Hammond’s unique movement controls/hit scan aim) I find picking Hammonds pretty much my best choice at this point.
Before I knew it my Hammond playtime was 90% of my time played and this was before I even considered one-tricking.
Guess we will see how far this rodent can keep me interested in this game before I drop it completely.

In an earlier season I played nothing but Mercy and climbed to 2800. I one tricked Ashe in this current season and climbed from 2100 to 2500. Meanwhile I get sick to my stomach when I see someone with nothing but Torb hours.
I became one a month or so after buying the game, before I knew what “one-tricking” was.
Don’t try to pack me into your little box.

Another issue I have known and honestly does not bother me personally but I imagine gets some people very frustrated.
It is easier to climb as a one-trick.
The ladder does not reward flexibility but rather punishes it. My all time highest rating 3350 (so close) was when I had about 80% of my playtime on Mei. It was probably the only other season I had such a huge disparity between my most played and my other player heros.
Well I did one trick Mccree to climb to plat in season 5.
Or was it 6, I don’t even remember.
Seems about right, I’m slowly becoming a Lucio/Moira two-trick (is that a word?)
I guess you’d be a support main.
Even then it comes down to personal preference. The amount of hours of Lucio I have compared to everyone else means to some I’m a one-trick even if I can and will use the other supports when needed.
My play time across most heros has been pretty balanced but when I got obsessed with Mei and played her a lot it was very obvious that my other heros suffered a lot.
It got to the point that even if I started a game tanking, and we were getting rolled, I could swap to Mei and completely turn the tables because of my ungodly aim with her alt fire and my surgeon like wall placements.
I would catch an earful every time I’d do that but it netted me more wins then sticking it out on a tank hero.
Seems a Lucio player would have a harder tiem adjusting to any other hero who moves so slowly and doesn’t have 5 dimensional movement
You’re probably right, but I can’t stand playing Ana or Zen at diamond. I feel so fragile and I can’t consistently aim well.
I used to be a Pharah-Zen two-trick, then I became a flex player and now I am simply a hitscan dps player whose favorite hero is and will always be Ana.
Ana really takes a lot of time to play decently at Dia level, but she is totally worth it.
Moira might trick you. You can still play a Dia Moira with bad positioning or defending skills, because Moira is more forgivable (but actually currently less viable than Ana or Mercy in most cases). If you play more Zen/Ana, you will automatically notice where you shouldn’t stand if you want to die less
I’ve had plenty of those moments throughout my career. People assume you- for some reason- don’t know what you’re doing and tell you to switch. I tell this story all the time but it’s pertinent:
A guy insisted we needed Mercy because she was OP. Well, I was tired of playing Mercy and told him no. He argued with me and I eventually told him “If you want Mercy, you play her.” He refused to. We killed it the first round. Second round, he instalocked Lucio and I went Moira. He couldn’t Lucio at all and kept dying, and eventually relinquished control back to me and we won. Secured the healing card too.
One tricks usually don’t one trick just to troll you, and allowing them to perform can do wonders. Had a Bastion one-trick carry on Lijiang without a shield; he said “Just keep me up,” and I did my best to heal him and speed him around. It was great.
I one tricked D.Va for a couple of seasons, but usually I’ve at worse two-tricked. Gotta have an alternative if someone instalocks your main.
I’m kind of enjoying the Ashe-Widowmaker two trickery this season. It’s cost my SR but I think I’m improving, the goal is of course to get back to Gold with this.
Remember, one tricking is okay if it’s a popular Tank or Support.
I’ve was in gold until about 2 seasons ago, then I got a second account to reset mmr because I felt I didn’t belong at gold. Got placed around 2.8 k and I basically only played mercy with the occasional dva or Moira because I felt she was my best hero. Recently bought a third account because I wanted to see where my dps is, i would’ve played widow but got plats in placements so I didn’t want to risk it. I got ranked 2.6 k basically 1 tricking Sym then went on to dominate only losing a few games, gaining up 65 sr per win and now I’m only 80 points off diamond. Wish me luck fellas.
Once, you become an Hammond one trick. You don’t rollback to your former self. Enjoy
I need more people like you in my games. “Can we get a rein so I can work with your barrier and melt the unskinny haters?”
“No **** you I’m going Genji against Moira, Winston, Sym”

I one tricked Junkrat a week after buying the game.
At least, until I learned I get more headshots using Torb than any hitscan
I’ve always wanted to try another account. I tried to play on comp but been a console player all my life so this account is pretty trash with no hours at all.
I’ve dropped down to bronze on purpose and by accident ( don’t play while drunk lol) and my SR on PS4 jumps between ranks like its nothing. I’ve never experienced being hard stuck in any rank. Not saying it doesn’t happen but I just never had that issue.
I just haven’t ever reached masters but I figured not much else keeping me interested in this game so One-Trick Hammond to Masters is my new goal. I like to Plat most games I play but bliz tends to make these games where being a completionist is impossible if you don’t all your money and time into it.
got to set your own goals I guess
