You want an easier game. What you mean when you say you’re glad OW2 is more “skill based” is that you’re happy it’s easier to kill other players.
It’s become clear that OW1 was too difficult to play for a majority of DPS players because they didn’t want to outplay their opponents, they just wanted to “out-skill”/“out-aim” the other players.
I saw one poster’s example of why OW2 is better than OW1 was because he couldn’t take a bad position as genji in OW1 without being punished but can get away with it for free in OW2.
Honestly it only feels good right now because it’s new but newness wears off and soon DPS will be bored of constant double/triple/quadruple kills and the patch that was devised for them will be left in the dust.
EDIT: I really didn’t want to update my original post but please do read the actual thread. There are some great moments of conversation that the community has discussed here. I’ve seen quite a few people get instantly triggered by my claim, which was to inspire conflicting beliefs and promote debate. But please don’t do the one’s that read through and post a disservice by ignoring them.
Thank you and Happy Foruming!
Why is it so hard to understand that DPS are supposed to be better at dealing damage and killing than other roles, hence it should be easier for them to get kills?
DPS are supposed to get kills more by comparison to the other two roles.
To put this in perspective, in OW1 DPS had windows of opportunity to secure kills that required reading the fight and setting themselves up for success. Whereas OW2 has Barn Doors of opportunity where the DPS spawn and run in a straight line to the enemy backline and smash their heads against the support and 9/10 get at least 1 kill then mission accomplished, leave or die, either way they did their job. Respawn and do it again.
Yes, because standing behind two barriers and spamming damage into a choke, hoping to blow up the enemy barriers first and then use 3 ults at once to kill everyone, is definitely more skillful than now.
Who said we have to maintain the status quo? There SHOULD be changes but making DPS get easy value at the expense of the other two roles isn’t the way to go.
I kinda see OW2 as everyone being on a pretty even playing field. In OW1 tanks were protected by op synergies with their tank partner. Supports were protected by a million barriers, cc and AoE heals. Dps we’re left scratching their head not knowing how to play the game. Things are more fair now and that’s a good thing imo.
I never had a difficult time playing DPS. If there was a shield in the way I’d… GASP… try to get around it instead of shooting at it constantly.
Seriously why they hate on OW1 tanks? They used a part of their kit to protect their team almost like what a tank is supposed to do and GASP supports helped their team WHO COULD’VE GUESSED? And the short attention span DPS heads shot bullets and killing shots on cooldown forcing barriers to be significant and prominent.
DPS
I would actually say that OW1 takes WAY more skill because it was knowing when to actually move in AND hit your shots. Whereas OW2 is simply hitting your shots(that’s that “skill” everyone keeps rambling about)
Granted, Ultimates were a little too frequent.
and it should be easier for tanks to push in to push out an enemy for space without being suicidal/without throwing.
and it should be easier for supports to peel/save allies’ lives by denying enemy kills.
there’s conflicting purposes/priorities between the roles yet apparently dps ones overrule others’? ._.
like even if you argue to change all 3 roles to be about killing as well, dps are still doing it better and easier too which doesn’t detract from the point about bias…
Possibly reaper and sym although im not going to include them personally.
If you disagree with some of these thats fine but almost all of these have favourable matchups in some situations.
The majority of which have favourable matchups in all situations.
Then he counters like what a few healers Ashe Widowmaker and Hanzo.
This is a real skill based game
If all we take into account is positioning and aim with some abillity useage as long as the abillites arent op like Hook 1.0 or Old Cassidy Flash
Then positioning aim and abillity useage is what makes up a good skilled player.
Not necessary. Certain rush comps involved support playing moira and lucio because their win condition was about killing the enemy support together with the whole team. Hog and ball torture comps also don’t give supports any advantage in staying behind shields compared to their fellow ally DPS, both were exposed all the time.
GenJI caN’t Be pLayED alL tHE tiME. Seriously tired of hearing this. He shouldn’t be viable all the time and if there is a counter then he should swap. Plain and simple and not swapping is not having enough “skill”. And many people have agreed that changes should happen with OW1 but NOT IN MASSIVE FAVOR OF DPS.
No that still is what makes up a good player positioning and aim is what makes a good player on Ana and Mercy.
If you position in some random choke infront of the enemy team and cant hit a single shot on ana your a bad ana.
If you dont know when to use sleep and anti your a bad ana
“Genji shouldnt be played all the time”
Counters 5 characters countered by like 30.
OW1 is the most unbalanced game ive personally ever played and OW2 isnt much better.
Mercy can permenantely super jump and stay in air infinetely while healing so she could be a new ultimate anti dive character who counters like 15 characters if played with brigitte or lucio.
Most flankers cant kill her now.
If they have mercy it pretty much forces atleast one hitscan now which messes up the whole dive comp somewhat.
Please read my previous posts instead of picking out parts and using them to solidify your shaky argument.
Changes should be made, stuns should be weakened and/or removed and there should be less shielding and damage mitigation and there should be CHANGES from OW1. You are comparing old OW1 to what it could/should be.
Please imagine what it could be instead of only what you see right in front of you.
They are just too basic and general to be OW-specific.
Such basic things became important when the game has failed to adjust the difficulty, like two people with s76’s ult-like aimbot playing FPS. Everything too ez, but there should be winner/loser, then people compete with such basic things.
I don’t say OW2 is better, but OW1 is not a good reference for a better game.
