You don't have to try hard in Arcade or QP

Its fine. Please continue to play the way you want to play. Objectives and strategy is sometimes not as fun as just trying to get kills or achievements.

But we don’t always want to play the same way. We don’t always want to do certain playstyles or strategies. In comp, sure penalize leavers. But in everything else, if you’re not gonna try, then I’m not going to stay.

It’s so fascinating to see the two types of people clash in this game:

  1. People who have fun just playing the game as intended.
  2. People who only have fun if they win a game.

Oh I’ve won games I didn’t have a lick of fun in.

That’s overwatch for you.

i think cheese burgers go excellent with fries

It would cost you $0 to go do something else, like go buy a cheeseburger.

See, the thing is, some people want to try hard. That’s what’s fun for them. They’re not telling you to try hard. They’re not telling you not to try hard. They just want to play the game the way it’s fun for them. Just like you do. So, realistically, nobody has to do anything. They just do what they want because that’s fun for them. Unfortunately, all those different types of fun clash with each other and that’s why not everybody can have fun.

The complaint isn’t that people play differently. The complaint is that people think that competing playstyles should be forced to play the whole round.

If its not working for you, leaving should be acceptable, even normal.

Unfortunately I only find fun in winning and improving myself (Altho I don’t really play arcade)

Are they specifically asking you to do something you don’t want to? Or are they simply picking heroes that require you to change tactics? Because only one of those things is a problem.

If they’re vocally demanding you play their style, that’s different to them just picking a specific team comp and you swapping to different heroes or having to play a different way to beat them. That’s just playing the game.

You don’t have to swap. You don’t have to use a different strategy. You can, as you said, continue playing the way you want. Will you win? Probably not. But that’s the game. You have fun doing whatever bs you enjoy, they have fun playing whatever sweaty meta has the best chance of winning, it can be fun for both of you… Unless you also find winning fun.

I agree you dont have to “tryhard”

But if you’re not playing the objective, then I’m sorry I disagree entirely. You’re throwing, and it’s gameplay sabotage.

The question is how much is throwing and how much is just being bad or cowardly?

Like I’ve seen people stay back and try to kill people without ever getting on the point/payload, and we lose.

I’ve seen people line up 1 by 1 to take on the enemy team and we lose.

I’ve seen people go to the same choke with 3 tanks, healers, and bastion and get mowed down and they respawn and do it again and we lose.

Throwing? Maybe. Easy to tell? Not really.

It’s based entirely on intent. If you’re trying to play the objective and win but you’re just really bad, it’s fine. But if you aren’t attempting to win and doing stuff like playing reddit Lucio, then you’re throwing.

It’s commonly very difficult to distinguish between the two, but my issue is a bit more about people saying it’s okay to do so - not determining if they are. your post seems to suggest it’s okay to mess around and ruin peoples’ games as long as you’re having fun.

I’m saying that the game lets you do it, and the game lets you leave if they do. I like to win, and I like good, fair games. If its not fair, and I’m not winning, then why am I even there?

Yeah you don’t have to be a tryhard but at least put some effort into playing as a team and trying to win the game. Don’t screw over the rest of your team. If your going to have a 5dps, and one or no healer team comp in QP Classic, I’m just going to leave and find another game. There is no point in playing a game that is lost before it starts. I know it’s just QP/Arcade, but I like to at least win sometimes.

So you’re… threatening to leave and justifying it if people don’t try to your specification?

What you seem to be forgetting is that the second we have different opinions, we’re supposed to immediately get hostile and ensure the whole thing goes nowhere

I’m saying there’s not a need for a justification. Its QP or arcade, and if people aren’t playing the way you are, and your game isn’t fun because of it…

It’d be worse for everyone to stay.

I think you shouldn’t join games if you’re not willing to play the whole game. But thats me.
The vast majority of people are not going to meet your expectations, but there should be an expectation of everyone to see the game through at very least and since that can be enforced but gameplay standards can’t really… that’s going to be what’s enforced. So if you don’t want the “punishments”… don’t leave.
