Hack being the way it is is an extremely important aspect of her kit. It alerts the enemy they’re being hacked via screen effects, and it can be interrupted even with 1 point of damage.
If hack was a skill shot, then it would be effectively uncounterable for any sombra that can aim. Not only could sombra snipe with hack, which would be cancer for tanks, but it would also be harder to detect her outside of listening for sound queues. Giving the enemy a chance to stop hack is literally the only way a silence can work in this game outside of an ult. Having hack designed the way it is is the most fair way to have the ability.
Stop trying to make hack into a skill shot. It’ll make her worse to play against by a mile lol. If you want, increase the cast time on tanks or something. IDK why they are constantly nerfing and reworking sombra’s whole damn kit to accommodate for tanks when they could’ve just taken release sombra and change how hack affects tanks.
I just want to point out that projectile lifetime is a thing.
With that out of the way, yeah the community doesn’t know what they’re asking for with wanting to make hack a skillshot. Skillshots naturally need to be more powerful to compensate for the aim requirement, and the community already complains about being locked out of abilities (but not actually moving around, aiming, and shooting) for a measly one second. Tanks would be hurt the most from hack being balanced around being a skillshot since they’re both easier to hit and more affected by its effects. We don’t need players hating the tank role even more than they already do.
I’ve been campaigning for removing Hack and moving most of its functionality – sans ability lockout – to Virus. Then giving her her Stealth button back on a separate cooldown from the Translocator.
I don’t care what it is, as long as they remove the ability disabling aspect of it. Make it a damage buff or something. Literally anything other than stopping abilities (y’know, the whole reason anybody gets on a hero shooter to begin with).
But Sombra mains don’t want to accept the fact that the character design is literally meant to ruin other people’s fun, so that’s never going to happen.
It only ruins the weak-willed’s fun. In all my time playing Overwatch, I’ve never had issues if I got hacked. If i did wind up getting hacked, it was my fault for giving her the opportunity or just not reacting fast enough.
Now getting hacked and then instantly removed from the game? THAT was way more annoying.
It also means it’s not a free land for sombra who can’t aim because they held right click while you were in the general direction of “on her screen for a fraction of a second”
I would gladly accept this trade.
In general I tend to prefer to reward skill (to a ceiling). If she’s reliably landing a skill shot, that’s fine.
Probably because you play characters that naturally counter Sombra. Playing any other character makes it beyond boring to even play the game when she’s in the lobby.
She can choose whenever she wants to engage, meaning she can wait until you can’t split your focus and just drill you to death from behind with little to no effort (because hack is just an auto-aim ability with 15m of range and a 0.5 second cast time, alongside her already incredibly annoying perma-stealth).
Get a headset and a reaction time faster than a slug.
Except ‘skill shots’ against tanks take absolutely zero skill whatsoever. Anyone who pretends otherwise is lying to themselves. Missing a tank with any projectile from any range that isn’t like 50 meters away just means you’re a lobotomite.
And trust me: This would be spammed even harder on tanks if this is an instant projectile.
I play Pharah lol. I get absolutely nuked whenever she gets the drop on me.
No, I just have a lot of practice turning around because I play TF2.
And I’m saying that would objectively make it worse to play AGAINST. It has important counterplay for such a powerful ability removed. Hack NEEDS to be interruptable.
Reaction time – our own personal time perception, in larger scope – is largely genetic. It’s one of those innate traits, often rolled into the concept of “talent”, that make some people better at certain things than others.
Hack was, at the time of introduction, largely had no counterplay. If you got hacked, the only way to clear it was to have Zarya. And EMP was worse.
Even as a Skill-shot, be able to lock-out abilities for several seconds kinda makes it worth it.
Look at Sleep Dart and how it doesn’t really do any damage, but operates as a skill-shot.
Tanks have defensive abilities that negate skill-shots, and damage. Sombra, despite how she was in OW1, was not a choice pick for GOATS, or attempts to counter the composition.
(and Hackfist strategies didn’t last long enough to really consider it a countermeasure).
Not really. If Hack was a skill-shot, it could still interrupt mobility and shut down a number of ultimates and channels.
It is possible to improve reaction time.
You got older, which is typical for reaction times.
If Sombra remained as she was, Stealth only lasted a few seconds, and Translocator was destructible. They would have plenty of chances to react and defend against it.
And so is Sleep Dart and Biotic Grenade. Doesn’t stop players from complaining about it.
It’s also affected by other factors like age. It can be sharpened and honed somewhat through certain activities, like video games and sports, largely by making key functions mechanical, where you need to spend less time thinking about them, but the core speed with which you process incoming information and formulate a decision on a response, even if it is on a subconscious or instinctual level, is largely down to your individual genes.
