You deserve the rank you're in

There is no such thing as an ELO hell. The only way to climb is to improve on how you play rather than complain about how much worse your teammates are than you. Keep in mind, you are the only constant for your matches. If you are consistently losing, it is YOUR FAULT. Unless you’re on a smurf account or an account that’s much lower than yours, you deserve your rank. I have personally climbed from bronze to diamond on one of my accounts, and it really was not hard. If you’re so much better than everyone at your rank, then you should be carrying every match you play. I’m quite honestly sick of people complaining about their rank because they think that they should be GM. Guess what? If you were at a GM skill level, you’d be in GM. Also, everyone who complains about being lower than they should be is a huge part of the problem. You’re the kind of people who complain mid match about someone being bad rather than giving them suggestions about how to play better. I don’t understand why some people would rather just sit and complain about people rather than tell them what to do. If someone is playing Junkrat into a Pharah and getting absolutely annihilated, you shouldn’t say that they suck, you should tell them to swap to something that isn’t getting hard countered. The reason I’m writing this is because the second I realized this, I started climbing again. Rather than just playing the game to win, play it to improve. That means actively trying to learn rather than just complaining about your teammates.

I’m sure a lot of players will take this valuable information to heart.

I can agree with this to an extent. “Elo hell” is nothing more than the construct of lesser-skilled players compensating for their continual losses in solo-q by blaming everything on an allegedly “rigged” system. I, myself have climbed from the depths of bronze to high high gold (literally 2 games off platinum) on console and eventually switching to PC by doing nothing but being a flexible player, queneing in groups, and looking for places to improve my gameplay.

My friend whose alt just placed 2920 when their main has been low gold for seasons says hi.

What is going on this season? I went from being 2900 consistently to now dropping like an anvil to almost 2k. I didn’t take a break between seasons.

Impossible for anyone to tell you specifically what’s going on without knowing anything about you. But generally dropping 900 points is poor performance in relation to your peers.

I could sit here and tell you I normally get all golds in what I’m doing (yes, I know… means nothing) and don’t die first but no one would believe me and just regurgitate the same “you deserve the rank you are in” so I honestly have no idea how to reply to this because I don’t have any footage of me playing.

But not in ELO-hell because it doesn’t exist

Like I said it’s impossible to give any constructive advice tailored specifically for you without any information about you. Otherwise there is generic advice which is readily available everywhere that probably applies anyway… You just need to figure out which parts do and which don’t for yourself.

Fwiw, I’ve dropped 600 points before because I was filling and learning new characters. Hopped back on my mains and regained it all back easily. Rinse and repeat until getting good enough on the fill characters.

Well, that’s like your opinion, man. Seriously I have seen so many posts claiming ELO hell exists and that it doesn’t… really no one knows. There is no definitive proof. I have consistently stayed in gold since launch, so am I in ELO hell? I don’t know!! Maybe I am too old to learn new things.

This can’t be true. I’m only plat but I’m so good that I belong in top 500. Top 10 probably.

The more hours I pour into this game, the more I realize this is nothing but the truth. Granted, you make it sound a lot easier than it the reality of it (for most of us plebs). As soon as you can accept the fact that you are not as good as you imagine… you can finally start your journey of gitting gud.

This is true. It’s one of the first things I always try to teach people if I’m coaching them. It doesn’t matter what game it applies to all. You simply cannot improve if you think you have nothing to improve to begin with.

There is one aspect no be of you have mentioned that makes the original statement false: games played. Its a very long grind to rank up, even if a person is multiple tiers underranked. Most players that may belong higher don’t get there due to not putting in the time. The same can be said for those that are ranked too high. Your SR may not be accurate until you play hundreds of games, and the majority of the playerbase does not do this. Its not a stretch to think some players are under/over ranked and remain so due to not playing enough games.

I agree. Went from 1200 to 3800 in 8 seasons of hard work. Now all my smurfs climb to diamond in no time
