Hello as some of you may know you can actually set the fps cap to 400 in the config and with decent ram, you can hit that FPS cap but you cant set it in-game I feel like OW should allow you to set it to 400fps just like in the config I would love to hear a devs response to this.
But why?
Like, I get 144 hz and the 240hz because of the screens but 400?
Just disable the FPS cap.
Ok i am not that much into computers. if I may ask, pcs that have a a screen of a certain HZ limit will only be able to display frames of that limit, right?
like for example a 240hz screen can only display 240 frames right?
Correct, if you were to have 240+ frames per second it won’t show more than just 240.
So going higher is just basically putting more stress on your pc for no reason.
This isn’t entirely true for non-sync screens, but if you’re buying screens on that level you’ll get synced ones in any case.
Higher framerate means less input lag regardless of monitor refresh rate. Always set your framerate to custom with a value of 300, or 400 if you edit the config file. Kabaji edits his file to 400.
wait I am so confused what?
Confused too.
Why would you want higher frames than your monitor can handle?
Wouldn’t that just put more stress on your system? I mean if- nevermind i just read it was regarding input lag.
Finally i can use my 400 hz monitor.
Let’s say you only have a monitor that can display 60 frames but your system can put out 140+ frames. Having frames be that high still benefits you because it shows you the most recent things happening on screen, make sense?
The higher you allow your framerate to run, the less input lag you’ll experience. This occurs regardless of whether or not your monitor can display that high framerate.
Ok so will sound stupid and it does I am sorry. What is imput lag excatly?
Isnt it the lag between you entering a comand and how long it takes to process said command?
Basically entering a command and how long it takes to see it on the monitor. To see your input lag in game, press Ctrl shift N and look at your SIM values.
Wait so if lets say I have a 1660 ti and it can run ow at 300 fps
I get a 165 hz monitor but I cap my frames at 300 I will have much less lag?
I see. thanks this is intresting. I am getting a new pc this summer. thats why I am asking
If you’re already getting 165 which is high, then the difference between that and 300 won’t be massive, but there will be a difference.
I see.
I am getting a 165 hz monitor with my new rig. my last pc (ahem a gaming laptop XD) had a 60hz monitor so its a big step for me
Nice! Just make sure you do NOT use in game V sync at all. That adds massive lag. Using g-sync and or fast sync in your Nvidia control panel is better. Or you can just use neither, if you can tolerate occasional screen tearing.
whats v sync? whats g sync? and whats screen tearing? XDD
