If you go to the Battlenet website, you can see this under “Connections” tab.
What is this going to do? Is it going to connect your Battlenet account login details so you can sign in through Steam? Is it perhaps going to sync your Overwatch achievements with the upcoming Steam achievements???
This has never happened before. Not to say it’s impossible, but it’s not likely.
In all likelihood, it’s probably just for login purposes. You’d just launch overwatch right into your bnet profile from Steam without needing to launch bnet itself.
This could also lock your bnet account to your steam profile, so you’d be required to either disassociate your Steam and bnet profiles or simply log in on a different Steam profile if you wanted to play on an additional account.
Yeah it would be the first time since it’s the first Blizzard game to come to Steam. But doesn’t EA’s Origin launcher do something similar? If you have at least 30 achievements in a game on Origin, it puts them on Steam also
Not that I’m aware of, but I don’t fiddle with many EA games. The few I have, I haven’t paid attention. 
I’ll stick to Battle net thanks.
Last and Current Gen consoles retroactively unlock Achievements, just not all of them because small indie team.
So possible it does unlock them assuming it’ll have it’s own Steam achievements.
But it’s primarily for cross progression, as is with Consoles and their respective account sync.
Yes most likely as there are similar functions with Microsoft’s login for their games available on Steam.

I more meant particularly with Steam. Steam typically wants you to unlock achievements while you’re playing it from Steam.
It won’t affect your bnet or in-game details, but you will not have more than 24 hours shown on Steam by August 11th.

But INSIDE overwatch will my career profile restart at zero?
It would be kinda astonishing if you tied your accounts and didn’t retain anything. You’re not jumping from one platform or OS to another.

No. All of your Overwatch data is maintained at Blizzard. Doesn’t matter what launcher you use: PSN, Xbox, Switch, battlenet, and soon Steam. Your in game data stays the same.
There’s a valid fear in that area, though. People who went from console to PC sometime in the last year or so lost a lot of stuff.
It’s virtually safe to assume we won’t see that problem repeated, but not technically. Hence, yeah, kind of astonishing if there is a failure, but it’s not impossible.
That was more a failure of Blizzard’s account merger system than swapping launchers. I never moved from PSN and still lost tons of historic data that will never be recovered. Knew a few people who switched during the merger timeperiod and lost skins and puchases, but haven’t heard of anything like that recently.
Yeah. I remember. I’ve mentioned it a few times.
It’s still not likely and still not impossible.
