A few people on the forums seem to believe that Zen can trance EMP on reaction. Any time you have seen a Zen trance an EMP, it was a guess.

Then swap off Zen. EMP shreds Zens shields.

I do think the blast should be moved a bit further along the animation (without increasing the overall cast time) and perhaps reduce the size a bit but there are definitely ways to see it coming

Yes you can react to these things, and you will blow trance like Architect did in the clip.
There are an awful lot of things that have a cast time under 0.5 sec or no cast time at all, meaning you can’t realistically react to them. But sure, keep crying about Sombra so we can play shieldspamwatch all day.
0.5 seconds is enough time to react, but still very fast. 0.2 seconds is too fast. I see no reason for EMP to cast 3 times faster than shatter.

I’ve disliked it for a long time, but since the Sombra rework it is stupidly easy to get it off now.
So it was a normal day in Competitive play, I was just simply playing lucio and thought I could contribute to the team providing some speed boost and healing.
Other team had a great sombra player. Yes, I was hacked sometimes, but that’s not the point here.
Instead of ALWAYS babysitting my team, I realized that staying away from my team, when I’m sure that there is EMP ready saved us a game. Every time when I was sure that enemy sombra had EMP, I decided to stay a bit further from my team and every time that sombra EMPs my team, I’d drop my ult AFTER. That saved us a game and proved, that sombra’s EMP is a counterable thing.
TL;DR - just stay f/$!@ng away dude.
People bait out ults all the time. This isn’t something specific to EMP and trance.

You can call this as you like. I’m fine with that and I think this is a normal thing bcs otherwise, you can call zen that counters grav or genji’s blade the same “hide+rez” practice.
No, Zen does not have to hide from Grav or Blade. Zen has plenty of time to Trance in response to Genji’s blade being cast and Zen walks into Grav on purpose most of the time to save his team. The casting time on Blade is 5 times as long as the cast time on EMP.
Hide and ressurect was a problem because Mercy hiding was literally her purposely letting her team die. Hiding to use sound barrier is just basic startegy and positioning, no different than many other ults in the game. For example if you know the enemy Rein has Earthshatter, you don’t willingly stand in an open area. Same if you know the enemy has EMP, you ensure you keep line of sight untilthe battle begins. The big difference here is that Lucio is participating in the game. He is only hiding until something happens, not until the fight is over.
In a way, yes and no. With all the nerfs heroes have gotten due to similar complaints like this, ult economy has become an integeral part of the game because its the only way to efficiently get kills in an organized fashion.
Do I like it? No. I wish ultimates were more akin to Apex Legends where they’re extremely useful, but not game changing.
True in a way, but I’d rather they change her stealth system than EMP if they were going to do any major changes. Most Sombra mains would love to get 75% speed back on stealth if it means putting it on a resource meter or something

She’s going to either solo emp you, emp your team and you can ult, (good ones will just double hack you but eh. not “unfair” just smart) or duel you.

Counterplay is positioning well
Coutless daily car accidents tell a different story. There’s a reason that, as an average, 0.5 sec is taken as the limit for reliable human reaction time.
But that’s not the main point. There are also many instantaneous abilities in this game that you can’t react to either.
Shatter completely stuns enemies, allowing for much, much easier follow up (because well… the targets literally lie still on the ground). Even the Rein himself can get more out of it alone than a Sombra can herself out of EMP if we ignore any follow-up.
And EMP only prevents you from using your abilities and removes health from a whopping 3 out of 30 heroes. You have a mouse with a left and right click, use them.

I guess it’s just up to the Zen to call her bluff. And don’t forget that EMP is already a massive counter to Zen.
I’d personally recommend Moira in his place. You wouldn’t get as high a damage output, but Moira can throw out orbs before EMP goes off and they’ll still be around if she’s wrong. Not to mention Fade can actually dodge EMP outright if timed properly. But, you know, Moira is “useless” in high ranks.
But, as I said, I have no qualms with delaying the blast of EMP.
Even as a Sombra main, I agree that it’s quite difficult to counter, you basically have to always be prepared, which isn’t possible.
I don’t think Sombra is this OP broken hero most of the Forums would have you believe but, if she had to get nerfed somewhere, I’d be fine if it were to EMP.
