You are stuck in low elo becasue you belong there

I find it absolutely fascinating that there are sooo many threads talking about leavers, throwers and smurfs being the reason why people cant climb.

I love overwatch and when i first started i wasnt very good. Ive climbed from silver to high diamond. My peak is just hitting masters. I watch alot of streamers, i practice alot ( ana bots) and i do alot of self VOD reviews. Few times ive been put into a 3800 SR games and let me tell you, i dont belong there i have a long way to go.

I see alot of people saying they are stuck in silver or bronze or even gold because of team. Im so curious as to why that is, do you truely think you belong in plat, diamong or masters? I have a RL friend who plays in low silver and he thinks he is stuck there because of his team mates. I went to his and watched him play. Let me put it this way, as moira he heals enemy team rather then damaging them and instead of healing his team mates he dps’s them, i told him about it and his response was " oops, i got mixed up never happened before " Dpsing as moira enemy tank while his rein is on 20% health next to him.

I then jumped on and played tracer ( my tracer is not very good ) however i was so surprised by the amount of players who were out of position. Everyone is standing out in the open, if we have a widow on our team, all enemy supports and dps are just standing in the middle of the map and simply dying and calling " smurf widow" ( all you have to do is simply stand behind something so widow cant shoot you and you can still heal your tanks ) As tracer with ok aim i was able to kill their support almost every fight, some games was able to kill 3-5 players because of a simple fact they were all too far apart and standing not close to cover.

I helped him climb to 3000 playing with him. There was definitely alot of smurfs who i lost to but that wasnt a problem as i was still able to climb. Hands down the MOST frustrating part of climbing through those ranks was my own team by FAR. Game just starts, i choose widow, straight away someone goes " No, we dont need a widow, if you dont switch im throwing " This happened soooooooooooo many times and not just with widow, tracer, genji, hanzo, mcree, mei, sombra " There has been times where im 40-2 on dps then i get told to switch because im not doing anything even though we are winning, not sure if trolls.

I do strongly believe you are where you belong. All you have to do is look at your mistakes, or watch top streamers and ask your self, can you play like that, if not then you got alot to learn. I like playing tracer, but watching Kabaji play her makes me feel like im throwing everytime i play her. His blink control is just out of this world, his aim…

From my example, the mistakes im working on atm are.
Stop tensing my arm when aiming as it gives me alot of inconsistency.
Stop taking on 1v1 when im disadvantaged.
Positioning agaisnt snipers
ULT prediction
Combo ults, ( i still let go of my hanzo dragon without checking that zar has her grav, lost many games because of this simple mistake )
Press TAB alot more
Understanding team comps alot better
Go on hero with defensive ULT if we dont have one for nanoed genji, or grav combos.
Play alot more heroes to understand them better
Make more call outs eg " genji no dash, mei no ice block, tracer no recall, hog no heal etc "

There are alot more.

Btw that friend, dropped back down to silver and blamed his team for losing 1300 sr

Of course people who’s stuck in especially bronze and silver deserve to be there since they play like trashcans.

They seem to watch 5 minutes of some pro stream and then in their delusional mindset is how they see themself playing the game.

I think the situation is different between servers. If you have ever played in korean server, you will notice that they are extremely toxic. For example:
There is this one game where I played in volskaya, I played ana and one of the teammate played reinhardt. He keep charging to 4-5 enemy team and dying because my heal can’t sustain the damage. I politely asked him can we go a bit slower and almost immediately he switch to torb and just jumped off the edge of the map.

I know it might seems like I’m nitpicking but this thing happen so often I got a bit frustrated and stopped playing for a while. People might say that the problem is I’m not carrying that much on that team but I’ve played in different server (I mean I played when I was abroad) and the situation is way different. People understand how compositions work, the communicate, and better then anything else, at the very least at most of my game they tried to flex/fill the role. But then again, who am I to say. I’m only one player in korea among the gazillion player here.

Sums it up pretty good. Now wait a few hours for the lower rank people to join in this thread and watch them convice you how bad their teammates are, what a horrible smurf experience they have and how rigged the matchmaking is. Not to forget the countless leavers. :smirk:

I mean he’s not wrong. He didn’t have a masters smurf with him every game to carry him.

i dont think im stuck, but i do think that i belong at least 600-700 sr higher then where i am right now. (2350 SR atm)

why?

because for the last 12!! seasons i always played around low diamond/high plat.
This season is the first where i dropped down to gold.
Maybe i suddenly got bad at the game? Who knows…

The one thing i know is that all my heroes that i normally play in comp have a winrate of 40-45% this season, thats the first time this happened. No idea why though. I’m not playing any different then the last 12 seasons.

What are you playing? I have also had games where in plat i drop from 2900 to 2600 because i dont play my main. I also find it easier to play in higher diamond, as healers and tanks peel for you. Like a dva peeling for me or getting healed as im about to die in diamond is a lot more fequent then in plat, infact its so rare for this to happen in plat. But i now know, if you make big plays, that matter, eg ( grav nanoed genji when we dont have have lucio or zen ) make a small enough difference to make you climb that extra 5%. And thats all you can do, just see your own game play and see what could have been done. There are so many games where even in gold i simply cant win. Only thing that you can fix is your self. If you become really good in a role you playig, after hunderds of hours you will slowly climb.

As far as tanks not pushing, in gold i get the same thing, i lose most of those games. I am not a player that can hs 6 people consistently for my tanks to move in.

Like i mentioned in original post, hardest part of climbing through those ranks is your teammates. I cant tell you enough how many people even in silver told me to switch off dps because im trash.

Ana = 259 Hours
Reinhardt = 157 Hours
Lucio = 120 Hours
Zen = 93 Hours
Roadhog = 92 Hours
Sombra = 84 Hours
(all total Hours since release of the game)

Those are the ones i play.
I know when to use Ults or how to combine them, i also know when a teamfight is lost and i need to get out of there if possible. I do think i know how to position myself, so i admit sometimes i’m still guilty of standing at the wrong place at the wrong time (too close to the maintank so we all get graved for example).

In my experience, matches in highplat/diamond are more fun and winnable because people know how to play together. The gold matches here which i am struggling with right now are kinda hard:

  • half the time people do what they want. (running off or solo ulting or something)
  • we get either 1 tank/1heal/4dps or 1 tank/2heal/3dps or 2 tanks/1heal/3dps.
  • if we do get a 2-2-2 after the first lost fight or round someone starts “dps isnt doing anything” and swapps to dps leaving us with 3 dps, because the previous dps dont swap to tank/heal to fill the gap.

all in all, i have no idea how to get back up to high plat/diamond, but i think it will come naturally (i hope), since i know how to play in highplat/low diamond and usually do alright.

I cant speak for all heroes as i mainly play dps, but open to flexing. Just looking at your hero list.

First one, Ana. ( i dont play ana )
I normally duo with an ana main and his sleeps are just insane. His positioning is good, doesnt get picked by widow or flankers, and if he does he can completly support him self without relying on team. But over all he makes same insane plays with his sleeps and his nano. Thats just observing it from my point of view, also he calls out when he doesnt have line of sight on players eg ( widow step back a little cant get LOS ) he does it often.

As Rein, i think the most important thing is do delete the enemy rein, not peeling but blocking shatters very very consistently. Also making huge plays with his shatter. In diamond most of the time you have full trust in our rein to block those attacks, he also warns when enemy rein will shatter. If you have a zar on your team and she isnt bubbling correct call them out, call out for bubbles mid fight rather then pre fight. If you have rein zar and they only have rein, you should be deleting that rein. My gold friend who mains rein never ever blocks shatters, even though i warn him, enemy rein will have shatter, he just misses everytime then asks why he doesnt climb. Also i saw alot of reins in gold do a shatter then charge in and displace all the enemies so dps cant hit them. I dont play rein, but just observing people play. There is soo much more, i would just watch master or gm streamers, or if you find a smurf rein playing in low elos just to see how they play.

Roadhog that lands his hooks is scary btw.

But i think think if you know what you need to do in your role and learn from streamers, your bound to climb. I think people dont realise that you need to learn overwatch rather then play and not realise what bad habbits you have. Maybe some players are just talented, but for me i have to do my research and watch ALOT and ALOT of coaching videos on just random heroes.

I wish you luck though man, stick to it and make sure your learning something or improving, wether its mechanical skill of ana’s sleep, or timing a nano perfectly or deleting flankers with your zen with your aim and saving your ult for team wiping.

Its such a complex game… Put in time to learn it, rather then play it is the way to go in my opinion and then put it into practice.

This is exactly what I came here to discuss. I know I’m not the best OW player, and I have a lot to learn about the game, but my SR has been consistently dropping. I’m low Bronze, which sucks a lot. I’ve been practicing for months, I watch videos on strategy, I make very detailed calls, and I consistently come out of my matches with gold in my role. And yet I cannot seem to win games. I don’t want to blame my team, because I know there are always ways to improve one’s own gameplay, but when 3/5 games I find myself on a team with 4dps who refuse to respond to the enemies composition, or teammates who just walk into a snipers lane, even though I’ve called the sniper several times, at a certain point I have to wonder how much more I can do. My SR has dropped to under 900, and at this low of a rank it’s like people aren’t even trying.

Do any of our high SR players have tips for better calling, better language for encouraging my teammates to switch roles to respond to enemy composition, or anything else that could help me be a better teammate?

Do not get me wrong but from experience in bronze and silver forget your team comp. Pick a hero with selfsustain and clutch potentiall (dps) and start to make plays independent of your team.

The way out of these ranks and even gold is not tied to your team but yourself

Players need to form groups to deliberately lose games.
That’s something to think about.

Cool post, but your profile is private, so nobody can trust you on what you say your rank is.

Hi, I would like to help you. Which char do you play ? Can you please provide any vid for review ?
Your current SR, your peak one ?

Idk maybe you doing something bad. You have good internet and pc?
Tell me what you learn from your loss ?
Have you ever recorded a loss ?
Sry for my English. (Spanish speaker.)

TheGadfly,

If your stuck in bronze in my opinion its an issue with A, hardware, what are you running? what are your frames ? What monitor, Whats your mouse? or B, your aim is just off. I have seen a bronze player play and it seems like the really struggle to cooradinate where they are looking. I have a RL mate who is in range for 1000-1300 and i watched him play once and he really struggles to do quick 90 degrees or even just looking around and he has over 800 hours in the game.

In bronze, i would strongly suggest going into practice range with bots, not ana and just practice quickly looking at bots, and shooting them down very quickly in the head. If your hardware is not an issue, that alone will climb you out of bronze, ofcourse you would have to be playing a dps role.

For my self, i dont look at team comp in bronze, i dont care what they play or what they do. I simple kill the whole team and win. Do you have discord, could show you few tricks for practice range.

ShouldBeGM, im sure you if you read my post , game sense wise im not a gold player. Im no gm, but also not gold or plat.

“You just need to play better lolololol” Here’s a summary of my games today, I have screenshots as well.

outdamaging dps as winston all game, dps can’t do damage
outhealing ana as a zen
2 games where I have 5 golds as moira, clearly don’t pull my own weight?
4 golds as rein with 25k blocked damage

So tired of this. The system is broken. There is tons of evidence.

The biggest confirmation I’ve got was the avoid system. Players that do not belong in my games are clearly way below the skill level of the opposing team. Before the avoid system, they were constantly on my team game after game. Never once were they on the other team in the next game if I re-queued. Now with the avoid system, once I avoid them they are never on the opposing team. This has happened once or twice, and the games end up being a stomp in my favor because of it. The games are supposed to be balanced with players of the same skill, correct? This is wrong, because the system does not do that. The problem now is I have to constantly avoid players, and so ones that drop off due to the list getting big end up in my match the next day or even a few matches later. Extremely rare for them to be on the opposing team.

“You belong in plat” I’ve been in masters knocking on the door of GM until I got bored and lost rank due to decay. Now you’re telling me I belong in low/mid plat where I am clearly pulling way more than my own weight? Stop defending this dumb system.

Methodd,

I feel your pain man, if you read my first post ive mentioned that plat is ALOT harder to climb out of then having games in diamond. No one helps you, no one peels for you and all teammates do is blame someone, out of bronze, silver, gold and diamond, plat is by FAR the most frustrating rank to be in. I have an account in plat that i play with my mate thats in gold. Its so tilting. I am in the same boat, gold elims, crazy kill % participations yet i still lose. Heck, ive seen top 500 smurfs struggle to win games in plat. Few friends who are in GM say 2800-3200 is the worst rank in overwatch. Some of my own experience in plat is the worst experience ive had in over watch where players at 2900 dont know how to play their roles, DVA plays as main tank doesnt contest high ground, Rein doesnt make space blames DPS, DPS players get 0 kills and lose damage medals to zen My most common thought that i have is " how are these guys plat, this is silver level "
It does feel like, no matter what role you play, you out do everyone on your team, healing dmg or even tanking. Most games when i play ZAR or even zen i out damage our dps who could be junk rat or hanzo and we lose.

But i think the way to get out of plat is to make huge plays when they matter, that will increase your win % ever so slightly that with many many hours you will end up climbing out. Wether its letting your team know " zen save your ult for genji " or zar " dont use ur grav im dead ". Its those tiny things you do that make that very very little difference but with enough grinding, could be 100 hours you can climb out if you do things consistently. Or unless you have brutal aim that off masters / gm which i dont.

Ive watched many streamers say that biggest issue with plat is people dont group up, they just play as if its 1v6 because they dont trust their teammates which by the sound of things you dont either at that rank because you get golds every game. Dont have links and dont care to look for them, but that seems to be like the most common comment about plat, because plat and diamond arent that different, just diamond feels a little more like a team game.

Good luck man

Hi. I am plat like you. And dps Diamond.
Gold as tank.

Let me tell you this: If somehow you trade with Dafran his skill as soldier or even Tracer. You will become GM with any of those char in not time. Less than two days I guess.

Are we at the rank we deserved? Yes. If you doing your job as high plat. You will go up and down, but will be high plat.

Now: are we getting qualities matches ? No, we aren’t. MMR is fine. The problem are players who smurf, who paid for boosted.; who de rank, etc.

And believe this I have play M games. This will continue even in top 500 games. Sam said it. Kabaji( I think) and many more. Some streamer had even left the game for quite a while now.
Unless blizzard decides to fix the MMR that was intended for flexible players and not one-trick, for positive gameplay and not smurf,derank, being boosted, etc. We won’t get quality in matches. Not matter what rank you play. S

So ,are we at the rank we deserved ? Yes, indeed we are. Not English speaker here.

And diamond is pretty toxic and full of alt and boosted. The skill gap between plat and diamond it is huge. Same as M and GM, I think.

Yup im a low player, silver gold is where i live.
My only problem is the usual " this is my alt account. Its my widow only. I dont care what happens cause im here to learn widow only"
Substitute any other hero for widow.
This happens at least 2 out of 5 matches.
When we have to deal with this crap on a regular basis it sux.
But hey, we dont matter. Only the vocal minority thats diamond + matters.

The problem is that low Elo like us, complain about things we see as broken, but the reality it is a thing you can’t figure out how to beat. A diamond and above will spend some time trying to learn from a problem.

I became pretty flexible and it worked fine. My dps was bad I switch to dps tank, healer. And viceversa. I was a Tracer main and when it happens that I could play Tracer it was a masacre.
