You are only 10% of any given game

Generally speaking, given the fact that 90% of a given 5v5 game is the 9 other people and therefore out of your hands, you can only change roughly 10% of the outcome. In other words, if the match gives more than a 10% advantage to one team with the overall skill differential between the two sides, you can not be reasonably expected to carry, even if you are slightly above the skill level of anyone on the other side.

I always guess the result of a game based on the first fight to see how accurately it can be read. I have a 90% accuracy rate because the skill gap in most games is essentially absolute and not surmountable. Just have fun, realize the teammates and opponents decide the result of almost all your games, and stop trying to insist that 10% of a game can override the other 90% if you just ‘carry’ hard enough.

First half of games rarely tell the full story in my experience. You’re rolling the other team, getting overconfident, and then it all comes crashing down as they start to roll you back harder and your team mentals just fall apart.

Brutally paring it down to "10 people = I am 1/10th of the effort " seems like ignoring that 5 of those people are working against you and that a whole bunch of other factors like who others pick, where their strengths lie, and where you’re playing can contribute or detract.

“You are the only difference” does not mean “you could have won those games if only you tried harder”.

It means no matter how much you complain about those people and those games, you are the only thing you can directly affect.

Yes this is a team heavy game and if your team gives up (say… after the first fight cause they all decided everyone ELSE isn’t trying hard enough… ) it’s impossible to carry them all. But if you’re not going to put an effort into the whole game… why play the match ruleset? Go fart around in Arcade for just the poops and giggles.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Or if you’re me on Widow, you miss 100% of the headshots you do take.

Jokes on you, I also miss all the bodyshots. Let me tell you if every widow player was like me, people would absolutely love going against her.

Luckily, she’s constantly banned so I don’t get the chance to fail. Thanks guys!

You can’t judge a match solely on the early outcomes of team fights. In a flashpoint, for example, there can be a lot of ground to make up if the enemy had some early victories, but the snowball can easily and quickly slide in both directions.
