Contrary to popular belief, having a gold border is the worst accomplishment you can achieve in the game. I went from being able to ask my team to switch or to play around me… to once I ask our monkey to swap to counter the enemy hog I hear, “you don’t know how counters work, you’re a gold border in plat.” If there’s one thing that I hear the most in about 87% of my games, it’s that.
To the kind and warm-spirited community of Overwatch… remove this sentence from your vocabulary. I know the majority of people I play with wipe their rear a total of once a month, but the mega toxicity needs to stop. To me it’s plain evil, and not to mention incredibly hypocritical. To berate someone, to intentionally insult someone endlessly because of what? So you can appear strong? Or is it because they’re so wrapped up in lies in their own world, and they can’t tell what the truth is when they hear it?
In retrospect, I believe that overwatch in general would be much better off if people started to chill out and not take off on a rampage on people when they ask you to swap. It’s not a personal attack. This is not overwatch anymore, it’s counterwatch.
People over reacting in general is pretty tedious. Everything is interpreted as a grievous personal attack. The same is true in reverse, some people get so very upset when you tell them no i know the feel of gold border plat. I only do placements and play occasionally, I just want the gold weapon points and then to go back to trying to have fun in qp…
They are? As in for the whole game or just for the PvP aspect? While it’s tedious dealing with people getting distracted from the game to attack borders, they’re still extremely handy in QP to help me dodge pointless matches with/against smurf/alt/etc accounts
Giving unsolicited advice about Hero selection in solo queue is a pointless exercise. You should just worry about your own play and let others worry about theirs.
I feel like you’re kind of playing up how often this happens because it’s something you focus on. If an insult has emotional resonance then you’re more likely to remember it. I remember I would occasionally run into platinum bordered people within a year of the game coming out so I’m surprised after four years that gold is something people comment on at all.
You guys. I hardly even have to say anything and they go straight to “gold border plat” and pretty much throw the game. And yes, I am aware that focusing on my own gameplay is the best way to rank up… but it’s very difficult when people are just spamming chat because they hate you so much. There’s no nice way of asking your team to play counters apparently.
You’re not gonna like this, but there’s a point here. What are your qualifications for asking someone in your exact same rank to change heroes? Why do you know what they should play better than they do?
It’s not just you, it’s for everyone. Stop asking specific people to swap. If you had more knowledge than them you’d win more and not be in their games.
A lot of people I’ve encountered that say this sort of thing are smurfs that are hardstuck plat on their main. They’re too scared to own up to this though.
I dunno about knowledgeable but certainly just as capable of playing the game. I don’t see anything wrong with asking someone if they can switch to deal with something, maybe they weren’t aware of X problem etc…
However, just cos someone asks you to switch doesn’t mean youhave too. As you say, they’re at the same rank. They shouldn’t throw a hissy fit if someone asks them to switch or anything else (just as the asker shouldn’t have a sook if they refuse).
Imagine what they say to me for having a high platinum boarder. Which is funny considering the most negative comments are from people with new accounts.
Here’s how I got to my account level:
I haven’t played competitive since season 4 (seriously) or 8 (placements for cp)
Lots of free time between college classes (and procrastination)
Quick play only
Gold medal bonuses
Party bonuses
Grinding
It really takes little time to get a high level relative to hours put in many other games (I guess if you’re young or like a teenager it sounds like a lot of time). And playing this way, you aren’t really focused on improving or anything. I’ve hit mid masters then probably declined down to a low diamond or plat since then. I have no idea since I haven’t played competitive in years. But to avoid the constant annoyance, it would be nice to not hear annoying comments anymore and just do without borders. Also, I would just like to customize borders, some look nicer than others.
