Years worth of competitive points saving tossed away

I’m genuinely upset about the announcement that competitive points will be converted to legacy points. I’ve been saving them for years holding out in hopes that the team would add another form of gun since it was mentioned by devs in passing years ago. I’ve been saving for years and have over 6,000 competitive points now and got so excited when I saw there would be emerald guns but hearing the rest of the announcement was like being splashed with ice water. It just seems so unfair.

It’s so frustrating to lose out on getting the new guns early after specifically saving them up for them, especially since it’s seemingly for no reason. This feels like they’re being taken away from me, like the collection of every events cases I had in OW1… it’s just not right or fair. I contacted support to see if there was anything I could do but I was forwarded here. Please tell me something can be done.

It is just like the hero progression system or the Overwatch coins… Credits? Whatever, they are restarting BECAUSE you have enough competitive points. That is the entire purpose. They are trying to artificially inflate the grind.

And also there was a bug where some us, myself included, were granted enough competitive points to purchase every golden weapon up until Overwatch 3.

id also like to add that the points arnt wasted if you dont already have every gold weapon.

in theory they’d still release gold weps for new heroes so youd be able to for instance buy ventures weapon in season 10 if you saved em up now

speaking of venture, they looked weird enough gameplay wise im practicing being a flex dps (mei, reaper, tracer [sometimes], echo, genji and so on) instead of hitscan/main dps just so i can be in the right mindset to play them XD

given the chance i may even save up comp points to get em a gold wep if its possible

Should’ve seen the writing on the wall when they stopped letting you save lootboxes/coins to get future event skins

Venture is looking fresh, son. My sistah spice is very excited for them and she has not cared about any post launch DPS… Ever. This is a first for her. I feel that is a good sign for the game. We need a touch more variety and Venture provides that. Naisu!

yeah exactly.

it was enough to make me effectively change role to prep for it. going from main dps (hitscans+ sojourn and hanzo) to flex dps is a fairly big change and it might be a while before im at the same level as my original mains BUT

if venture is half as fun as they look…it’ll be worth it.

(this is ofc tentative and i may rage quit after i jump into comp; anything is possible lol)

i havnt seen a hero that made me this excited to try em out in a while. and it would seem im not alone in that.

god i hope i dont rage quit this cuz i really wanna stop being a main dps rofl

You just learned a valuable lesson in investment. Not all of them work out.

Case in point, you gambled on something and you lost out. Welcome to real life.

At least your converted legacy coins can still be used to buy the golden guns. This also means everyone is on a level footing especially those that played enough to just stockpile competitive points and have all golden guns already. If they didn’t do this, it would dilute the effort you need to put in to earn the emerald weapons and whatever else they decide to make.

Wait, what??? I’ve been hanging on to 3k comp points since 2021 just in case they added new weapons. I don’t play ranked and I only want the weapons for Ana. Don’t care about having golden weapons for heroes I don’t play.

So how are we supposed to buy the emerald/golden weapons in the future?

New currency. Think how Coins are new and Credits are legacy. Same thing, except you can’t earn legacy Comp Points only new Comp Points

Now you can spend them on gold guns for any characters you didn’t have them on

Why would anyone do this if they don’t use those characters though?

And why not convert them into OW coins instead of legacy credits? I have 50k of those already and they’re absolutely useless. Comp points were so hard to earn, it’s not like just horde lootboxes with a diamond border so every item gave me credits. It took effort, it was hard, they’re worth more than trash legacy credits. :sob:

They really need to stop with all these different currencies. I thought Red Dead Online had a convoluted currency system, but OW is like hold my beer.

Because it gives you incentive to branch out and try new things instead of doing the same thing forever.

Doing so will make you a better player faster as well, so it’s not even just a fun factor deal.

How does that incentivize me to try new things? Buying a gold gun for Moira won’t make me want to actually touch Moira. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

If you don’t understand then you’re hopeless, sorry not sorry

by playing ranked and getting the new points.

but it seems to be easier to get em in the new system, dont even have to win it seems.

So let me get this straight.

They’re getting rid of comp points, so they can replace them with NEW comp points, which are functionally the same as old comp points and are obtained in a similar manner.

Wow, I can’t even believe how much sense this makes!

My guy… A freaking mythic skin can’t convince me to learn/try Hanzo or Genji, but you think spending points on a golden weapon for them will? The weapon is nice to show off for heroes you are proficient with. Imagine running into a match after popping a golden weapon on a hero you can’t play. You’ll get laughed at/reported to hell and back. “You went 2/0/16 on Genji and you have his golden weapon??? Embarrassing.” or “You are 2/0/16 on Genji and you have his golden weapon, clearly you’re throwing, reported.”

…because they want to incentivize people to play comp. How does that NOT make sense to you?

If it makes you feel any better, it’s much easier to get the guns in this new system. It was around 600 games to get a gold gun at the start of OW1 and under 60 in OW2.

That’s good to know at least.

It took me like a year or more of doing just placements in every single possible competitive mode they released for just one gun. Worst era of my OW life. No idea how people can actually enjoy ranked, but hats off to them, they’re bigger people than I. :sob:
