Xbox Mercy help?

I’m beginning to play Mercy a lot more, now that I’m realizing my Ana isn’t very good. I’m beginning to learn how to bunny hop, super jump, and others like that.

Currently, I can only bunny hop. I’m an xbox player, so if any xbox Mercy mains could help a girl out that’d be great, thanks!

What is it you need help with exactly?

The key to Mercy IMO is being able to read the game/situations well so you know when to do, or not do certain things. I have accounts on XBL so if you want to join a party some time I may be able to talk you through a replay or two?

I have a rly trash mic so I can’t rly join parties.
Basically all I need help with is button combinations to super jump and such. I think there’s a mercy training custom game that’s in paris too, but I can never find it.

I believe I’m a pretty good mercy player besides me not being able to super jump and do all the other fun little mechanics.

Okay but the mechanics are secondary to heal/damage timing, target priority, etc. You can get to at least diamond by only using guardian Angel, flying and good game sense.

If it helps I use a back right button on my controller to crouch and left bumper to jump for all my characters, including Mercy. Before I had a pro style controller I would click the right stick to crouch and use B to melee.

P.S. I move Ability 1 that was originally on the left bumper to the left stick/left back button. On most heroes that is a movement ability so it’s pretty intuitive.

Ya that makes sense. Thanks for the help!

No problem, keep us posted!

Rebind your buttons, that’s the biggest thing. I highly recommend changing crouch to the right thumbstick, or just something you can press without having to take your thumbs off the thumbsticks.
For me personally, I have healing on rt, damage boost on lt, jump on rb, ga on lb, and rez on A. It’s very very easy and I highly recommend anything similar to it.
Once you rebind your buttons, it should be easy to learn and master superjump. Once you do that, move on to learning superjump rez.
Watch tons of videos about playing Mercy. Niandra has really good tutorials so I recommend checking them out!

If you look up Mercy SJ workshop codes on google there should be some.

I’m gonna split this up into smaller sections, as this is a wall of text. I’ll start with some general tips, then general combat tips, then tips regarding Resurrect, and finally Valkyrie. Hope this helps.

Xbox Mercy, for starters, is both a little harder and easier than PC Mercy, for various reason. One one hand she’s easier to play because using a controller makes it easier for you to use your beams more freely, but you lack the flexibility of PC Mercy as they have more control over her flight and manipulating Mercy’s hitbox. So bare that in mind.

To start, hitbox manipulation. Mercy’s second passive, Angelic Descent, as you’re likely aware, allows Mercy to glide to the floor at a slower rate than falling regularly. This can allow her to reach areas that other heroes can’t, but be careful using it willy-nilly, especially if you’re using it in the air. Mercy’s wings are, in fact, part of her hitbox. Meaning, when they’re extended, they can be shot at. To limit this, if you tap your jump/secondary fire binding you’re still able to activate Angelic Descent without extending your wings while still falling at the same rate. So it makes arieal travel a lot safer.

But in terms of general gameplay, there’s still the normal things to consider when playing Mercy, regardless of platforms, such as positioning, spacial and map awareness, and hero synergies. For example, Orisa is a great paring for Mercy as Orisa’s ult and Valkyrie damage boosts stack (up to a point), so you can push damage boost real heavy with an Orisa, and she’s just a really good damage boost target, whereas she struggles to play with a Reinhardt as his close range nececitates Mercy to also play on close quarters, which could be potentially dangerous.

It’s also common knowledge that aim on console is worse than on PC, but do not underestimate your enemies aim because they’re using a controller, especially higher up the ladder as MNK becomes a lot more common. But keep watch of who is on the enemy team, and adpat your playstyle accordingly. If they’re running Widow/Mccree, stick to the back, using natural cover to peak in and out to heal/boost your team over using barriers. Barriers can, and will, break very easily nowadays, so you want to spend as little time behind one as possible, especially as Mercy. Take advantage of the brief window your beam stays locked onto your target as you break line of sight of them to make sure you spend as little time out of cover as possible. And stay low, using super jumps sparingly as snipers like Widow will find it all to easy to pick you out of the air. Alternatively, if the enemy are playing flankers like Tracer/Genji, make them work for you - Never sit in one place for too long. One of Mercy’s big disadvantages of having a beam weapon is that the enemy can use the beam to find your location, even if you’re behind cover. Stay on the move, implementing super jumps and bunny hops to keep an edge over them, and play on the high ground if possible. Against flanker type heroes (Excluding Echo and Doomfist), it’s often very hard for them to get onto the high ground, often times needing to use the stairs up to said high grounds to chase you. Higher rank players will know shortcuts around this, like Tracer’s blinking across different points of elevation to reach you more easily, or Symmetra’s placing teleporters in places you won’t hear them. But the longer they have to work for the kill, the more likely your team will win the fight. Because unlike the flanker, you can do your thing while fleeing, whereas they can only really focus on you, or leave you alone, leaving the enemy down a dps in a team fight for however long it takes for them to kill you or give up the kill.

Rez is also rather tricky, not to use, but knowing when to use. My general advice on using rez is:

  • Never rez if an ally gets spawn trapped at the start of a game (Example of Junkrat firing at Hanamura Defence A). This leaves you without your only cooldown for the upcoming fight.

  • Do not rez your teammate if multiple are already down, as you risk losing yourself as well. A good gauge to this is if you lose three allies, that’s normally the sign of a lost fight; a rez there would only feed the enemy more ult charge.

  • Rez priority should be, imo: Tank, Healer, Damage. Obviously, there are some outliers, like if your dps has an ult like Death Blossom, it may be worth rezzing them instead. But as a rule of thumb, Tank, Healer, Damage.

  • Trust your instinct. If you think a rez is unsafe, or won’t provide any value, don’t go for it. It’s better to be in a fight 5v6 than 4v6.

  • Never attempt a Super Jump Rez without practice. If you want to practice it and the regular Super Jump, check out Niandra’s Super Jump Trainer in the Workshop. Check out her YouTube channel (Niandra) or KarQ’s Mercy Tech video for the Workshop code.

And finally, Valkyrie. Valkyrie is a transformation ultimate, and therefore is merely an extention of Mercy’s base kit, much like Bastion’s Configuration: Tank and Winston’s Primal Rage ultimates. Firstly, what does Valkyrie actually do for Mercy? Briefly:

-Increases healing to 60hp/s
-Doubles her Beam and Guardian Angel range to 30m
-Provides Mercy with chain beams that stem 10m away from the primary beam target
-Triggers Mercy’s passive, Regeneration, to be active for the duration of the ultimate.
-Grants Mercy infinite ammo
-Increases Mercy’s fire rate and projectile speed
-Increases Mercy’s base movement speed to 9m/s
-Increases Mercy’s Guardian Angel flight speed
-Grants Mercy omni-directional flight
-Increases the range of Resurrect to 6m

So, what can you do with this knowledge? Well, for starters, Mercy’s inate playstyle doesn’t change drastically. The real kick comes from needing to become used to moving on the Z-axis, which is unique to Mercy and Echo. Once you get used to moving on the Z-axis, it becomes fairly straight forward to navigate around. One thing I want to stress about Valkyrie is to avoid flying up to the sky box (or in certain scenarios the ceiling). This can be incredibly tempting, as it feels safer not being on the ground, but Valkyrie doesn’t make you invincible. Enemy hitscans will still find it all to easy to clip your wings and shoot you down. Stick to playing around corners, where possible, or far back from the fight to make sure you have optimal beam uptime and minimal risk of being attacked.

I like to think of Valkyrie as a Swiss army knife, as it’s good at many things, but doesn’t really specialize in anything special. What is important to keep in mind though is you’re able to see enemy health bars, regardless of if you’ve damaged them yourself. Call these out. If you see someone low that you can’t reach, call out their rough position and that they’re low for your allies to capitalize on. Valkyrie lacks any real play making potential, unless you pop off with a Nano Boost and make both your team and the enemy team stare at the kill feed with both hysteria and horror, but the more you impliment shot calling into your Valks, the more impact you’ll feel when you use the ultimate.

You should use Valkyrie after your team manages to secure a pick, and you should prioritize damage boost over healing, where possible. The more you push damage boost, the faster fights can end, and if you’re lucky you may become on fire for your efforts. But if a fight ends early, here’s a little trick to keep in mind: If you’re healing an ally as Valkyrie ends, and the ally still needs healing, don’t swap targets or beam. Because the beam that’s attached to them is a Valkyrie beam. Meaning if you’re healing, your healing is still 60hp/s. Once you swap beam/beam targets, your healing slowly start scaling back down to 55hp/s. So if you want to build your ultimate faster, keep healing as Valkyrie ends, or swap to your heal beam just before to heal your ally faster and gain more ult charge for it. This can put you at a huge advantage in the ult economy.

Anyway, I know this is a massive wall of text that puts Trump’s to shame, but I hope this helps. Have a nice day, and good luck with your games

It’s just the projectile speed!

If you haven’t already, I’d also reccomend checking out andriatic cx. They’re an xbox mercy main and they have a lot of really good informational videos (including one that goes over every single mercy GA tech in detail). I learned a lot from them.

I use the right d pad to bind the crouch, and quickly move to it removing my thumb from the left stick, it works pretty well for me

Check out bro you wack on YouTube he tells you how to super jump and he mainly plays on Xbox
