Setting my Xbox Series X + Overwatch 2 game to use “high frame rate” (120fps) causes controller “disconnects”. The controller remains on, but inputs do not work or only work sporadically. Additionally, microphone input will not work, but you will still hear the game + any party members. The only way to get out of this state is to remove and replace the controller batteries.
This issue only affects 120fps mode. 60fps mode “resolution” does not produce the same results. This issue only affects wireless controllers with wired chat headsets connected via the headphone jack on the bottom of the wireless controller.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Have an Xbox Series X & Xbox Series X/S controller on the latest software updates
Connect via HDMI 2.1 to a 4K/120hz TV
Enable 120hz in the Xbox settings, and enable “Framerate” mode in the Overwatch 2 video preferences
Connect a wired chat headset to your wireless controller’s headphone jack.
Play Overwatch 2. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes later, you should notice missed inputs, held inputs, and unresponsive controls.
A temporary fix is playing with the 60fps “resolution” mode, playing with a wired controller, or using a wireless headset.
I also have this problem with the exact same setup as the OP. I have only seen this with OW2. It happens almost every match and I have to pull the batteries. As suggested, the controller seems to stay connected if there is no headset plugged into it.
I have not tried this. I could, just to troubleshoot and verify OP’s claim, but I’ll take his word for it and just leave my controller cabled in. I really prefer the 120fps, its like the whole point of the LG C1 I bought for my Series X.
I agree. Overwatch is also part of the reason why I purchased a 120fps TV as well. Very frustrating to see this issue go unresolved for so long (apparently, it was happening in the betas as well).
Hope to see a fix soon, but it’s not on their known bugs list & I have yet to see a Blizzard employee comment on ANY of the relevant threads…
Nice! Finally someone who understands! The thing is I thought it was just the game crashing and many times just turned off my Series X. Even now that I know disconnecting and reconnecting the controller would fix it, I can’t really do this with the Elite 2 controller. I did note that just not touching my controller inputs for about 20-30 seconds when the bug would start to occur, SOMETIMES it could come back. LG C1, Series X, Elite 2 controller, Astro A40 WIRED into my controller. I’ve noticed many people point out this happens when a headset is attached to the controller. Anyways, BUMP.
I have this exact same issue. Didn’t realize it was with a headset plugged in. I have my game running 120fps on my series X and use a wired headset.
It’s quite frustrating playing comp and randomly losing all control. I have to quickly remove my battery to get it to come back.
hello same problem my controller disconnects it still hasn’t been fixed, and also big loss of fps on ow2 the same I had taken an xbox series x with a 1440p 144hz screen for ow1 to play at 120fps at 1440p zero problem super well optimized Constant 120fps and on ow2 only problems losing fps from 120fps which drops to 90/70 fps controller which disconnects and success which crashes my games,
I believe that the success bug has been fixed but for the controllers that disconnect and the optimization no idea
