Wrong Server region?!

Hello! I’ve been playing Overwatch for quite some time. I’m located in the Austin TX area. Today I was randomly thrown in EU server AMS1 repeatedly with a minimum of 150ms ping. I usually play on Chicago or LA (if I’m playing with my friend who lives in Las Vegas). Is this a dead game or something? Why can’t I play in my normal region? My DNS settings have not changed. My BNet region is still the US. I also timed out in one match and was penalized for leaving.

A couple of hours ago I got into a game with 180ms ping, for the new junkenstein mode. QP was a bit better at 130ms. My normal ping is 60ms, west NA to LA server (I guess). At non prime time hours I have 80ms ping (probably connecting to midwest or east).

Thought it might just be my ISP. Maybe it wasn’t.

Try a VPN connecting near your normal server. If it works, then you’ll know it’s ISP routing.

As for the NA servers, they are in Chicago and Las Vegas.

So I get that ISP routing is an issue that plagues servers.

Is there a reason entire lobbies are being placed on different servers? I’d see it as more of a one-off routing issue if a singular player or I was being put on GBR or ASM, but when the entire lobby is from NA and are all on international servers multiple times a day, it seems like it’s more than just ISP routing.

How are you tracking this? If the majority of the players in the groups are in another region, then everyone might get routed there, but otherwise I don’t see how this is possible or how you’d track it as a player. For instance, I’m in NA and play on both ORD and LAS, but I’ve never been placed on a server outside the U.S. since Overwatch launched.

I’m in NA and have been transferred out to GBR and ASM with everyone in the lobby complaining about the 150 + dping and asking if we are still in NA. That’s without me even mentioning it. It’s happened multiple times to me with the last one happening yesterday.

I think that’s what’s been being miscommunicated through a lot of these threads complaining about being put on the wrong server. It’s not just the single person, but the entire team or lobby being misplaced.

Are you in the northeast?

Southeast, Central Florida. AT&T Fiber.

Huh, same but on Charter. What time of day are you playing?

Mostly anytime between 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. during the week. I wfh early mornings. I play sporadically throughout the weekend.

I played between 2pm and 7pm EST from the same area of Florida as you, but on Charter. I was never placed outside ORD1 or LAS1. I’m not sure how to recreate this or what could be causing it.

I just got sent to gen1 190ms. I read that is Finland? Other people were saying they were also from NA east. It felt like I was playing underwater, people did not even want to cap point because it meant we would be stuck in that lobby longer.

That’s Oslo, Norway. Sounds like the routing problem that started a few days ago with Verizon and other nearby ISPs of New England is still ongoing.

there must be something wrong with the routing. .

there is nothing you can, do
